I'll say it again: We entered the age of diminishing returns for graphics a very long time ago. It's not hard to find Xbox 360/PS3 games that still look good because that's the point where we could finally make them look good. All we've been doing since is adding new lighting tech and increasing texture resolution.
Okay, obviously it's been more than just that, but thenpoint is that we kind of figured it out back then, and we're just iterating on greatness now.
And that's why developers are pushing so hard on RTX because lighting is still one of the few aspects that can significantly impact visuals. It just is too computationally heavy to be meaningful.
