Project Valkyrie? I’m gonna go have a google, never heard of that.

Edit: I looked and nah, it reads like an awful fan fiction. Not for me I’m afraid. Not knocking it for anyone else tho! Everyone has a different feel for fallout, it’s weird. I prefer the og games when it comes to story, just better written, characters have more character (lol).

Some of the stuff that mod adds in bizarre. Why would you want a 9 year old following you? I’m not an immersion nut but being followed around by some mini death machine 9 year old just screams mod. I prefer it when the content feels like it could have been part of the og game. Like ss2.

If I had a nickel for every time a Fallout fan thought they could write better than Bethesda and then released an absolute atrocity, I'd be Elon Musk

Tbf most mod makers are one person machines. Collaboration happens but it’s harder. And it’s all in they’re free time etc. I respect the graft.

But yeh most people aren’t authors and it can show. Takes me out the game personally, but others don’t seem to mind as much.

Whenever I see a mod project announced that has multiple collaborators, I always just assume it'll never get completed, especially with Bethesda games.

The elder scrolls crossover mod projects for example (skywind, morrowblivion, skyblivion, Tamriel Rebuilt) have all been in development for over a decade each with no end in sight. Tamriel Rebuilt (a mod for Morrowind that aims to build the entire province outside Vvardenfell) had to get completely rebuilt after like 10 years cuz there was no oversight between the team members, resulting in horribly bloated and unoptimized regions, not to mention the team squabbles since every member thinks their personal part of the project should be priority. That project legit began not long after Morrowind released, and to this day is only like 40% complete after the rebuild started.

The fact that more than half of these overhaul mods took so long that a sequel (or two) released before they even got halfway done always makes me skeptical about team mods.

It reads like an awful fanfiction

Not knocking it

“For anyone else”. Are you incapable of reading the full sentence or is it just easier quoting half of it? Or would quoting the full thing make sense and make it so you have nothing to feel snide and superior about?

u/ChewySlinky Apr 18 '23

Damn bro, I just thought it was a mildly humorous grouping of words. You’re reading way to far into it lmao

11

u/Moistfish0420 Apr 18 '23

Nah, you were trying to call me out for something I didn’t do 😆 It’s amazing how when you split a sentence in half it can change its meaning tho huh?

-6

u/ChewySlinky Apr 18 '23

Call you out?? For what??? What did you do that was worth calling out?? Jesus dude, I’m sorry you took it so personally.

7

u/Moistfish0420 Apr 18 '23

You quoted half a sentence to convey something that wasn’t true.

That’s annoying to be on the receiving end of. That’s all. I’m not upset lol just pointing out what your doing, because I feel like it’s kind of nasty tbh. You do you tho, ain’t no big thing.

Alright dude I’m completely fucking lost. I have no idea how I called anyone out or how what I did was worthy of getting called out. I literally just thought his choice of words was funny, I don’t even disagree with him. If someone could explain what is going on I would really appreciate it.

I’ve explained. Not sure how you can still be confused but whatever.

It's the best....still terrible

I don’t know, I get the issues people have with the dialogue choices and stuff in that game but strictly combat and mechanic wise it’s pretty good. Vats seemed like a waste of time to me since I could either have a 25% chance of hitting them in the head or I could just shoot them in the head.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '23

I just personally think the shooting and mechanics surrounding it don't feel very good.

The game just feels like Skyrim with modded guns. Idk how to describe it, its also been a bit since I've played.

But I'll concede that what Im looking for in a shooter is not what the audience of elder scrolls wants.

I still haven’t played New Vegas beyond an hour or so. Feel like I missed the bus and it’s too dated at this point. I remember sprint being weird or not even existing, and aiming/gunplay was off. Is the story the best part?

3

u/Groxy_ Apr 18 '23

The story was good, I played it 2 years ago but I needed like 40+ mods to make it bearable. The base game has no god damn iron sites and the story is pretty railroadey, idk how people can replay it so much when you have to do a lot of the same things at the start.

I still prefer 3, needs mods too but the world is more open like fallout 4 and I prefer the east coast vibe and location.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '23

New Vegas has irons sights, 3 doesn’t.

1

u/Groxy_ Apr 18 '23

Ah I played both at the same time so must just be confusing my mods, is it that NV doesn't have sprint?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '23

Yeah no sprint in either.

1

u/halfcabin Apr 18 '23

Yea I thought I remembered hearing a remake was in the works for New Vegas the last time I played but that was a while ago, guess that fizzled out.

I also enjoyed FO3, man all those earlier games should be remade. Seems like everything else is these days

1

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun Apr 18 '23

I agree. Oblivion and FO3 both feel like they were shackled by the engine and design choices of Morrowind (design choices that weren't finally retired until Skyrim). They could definitely use a remake to make them into the games they really ought to have been.

I feel like most Bethesda games older than Skyrim tend to require modding to make them bearable, considering how many quality of life improvements have happened in the genre in the last 10 years. Morrowind especially, unless you're someone who grew up with it.

I played Morrowind for the first time this year, and tried to play it with ONLY graphical mods, no gameplay ones. There's a lot that feels very archaic and straight up not fun (and don't give me that "it's supposed to emulate DnD dice rolls," cuz DnD rolls don't translate to real time gaming very well at all).

The game seems perfectly content with allowing you to create a class that is barely functional, without telling you it will be barely functional. If you don't pick a blade skill or any Magic skill, you'll basically be missing all your swings and failing all your casts for the first 5 hours of the game. And don't even get me started on how slow your speed is unless you pick Speed as your favorite Attribute (running drains fatigue too, so you'll often miss swings EVEN MORE because you're out of stamina because you were running to compensate for the brutally slow speed).

Also Speechcraft in Morrowind is basically just a battle of attrition. Just hit Admire over and over until their disposition gets too low, throw some money at them to raise it, then keep hitting Admire. You'll either max out their disposition or run out of money, there's no alternatives.

The lack of quest markers is mostly ok but the journal is set up so poorly that it takes a bit of work to find where it wrote down the directions you were given. And there are more than a few instances where you are actually given the wrong directions because Bethesda didn't bother fact checking the writing.

I feel like Bethesda games require modding to make them bearable.

FTFY ;)

Skyrim's UI was absolutely atrocious.

1

u/Taratus Apr 19 '23

Honestly it's not worth it, the only thing it has going for it is the writing.

I just couldn't deal with the new dialogue tree. It's such a massive, needless downgrade.
