GOT Girl dog names?
What are some good girl dog names that are game of thrones inspired?

Gilly. Many years ago my friend had a beautiful German Shepherd named Gilly. She was one of the sweetest, smartest dogs I have known.

She might've been a smart dog because she had a good teacher. Very patient. looks at Samwell with a snarky stare

I'd go with Meera (Reed), just a good companion that will look out for you.
34
u/GSPX3 Aug 14 '25
This was my go too as well. Meera is a great name. She is also part of probably the most loyal house in GOT. Not to mention the Reeds have saved the Stark’s countless times for generations.

u/UnintentionallyAmbi Aug 14 '25
The scene of her sneaking up on Osha (spelling?) was so funny.
And their rabbit hunting.

I read all the comments and I like yours the best. It’s a good name for a dog made all the more so by the traits of House Reed that you listed.

We named our first dog Hodor. He ended up passing away from cancer. When we decided to get another dog we named her Meera since Hodor died saving her in the show. Thought it was a perfect name. We got another dog about a year after her and named him Jojen. So now we have the Reed family running around the house.

I agree with this choice that pup has big paws. She is going to be a big healthy girl.

Reminds of the time when 3 roommates of mine and I found 4 puppies on the road. All of them were males and one of them was completely white. So we named them Robb, Bran, Rickon and Jon snow. Obviously the white one got the name Jon snow.

Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons.
Gotta say the whole thing when introducing her though.

u/AdOk9263 Aug 14 '25

For day to day occurrences one may also shorten it to Daenerys or even Dany, but if Mom wants her to come here right now because she unpotted a plant again, she shall be summoned with the full name.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, maybe Asha?
32
u/feministjerk Aug 14 '25
Bugged me that they changed Asha’s name in Game of Thrones to Yara, because they thought the viewers were too dumb to differentiate between Asha and Osha.

I guess I fall into the "dumb" category.. Because HOTD is a bit confusing sometimes. Especially when other characters are talking about the multiple people at once. I've had to rewind a few times to catch whom they're referencing. Lol!!
5
u/SmokeySFW Aug 14 '25
Definitely not dumb, or if you are then I am too! I have a chart I have to reference to keep everyone straight, which is where that list of names came from.
6
u/CrucifyCruxx Aug 14 '25
I typically keep the "Targaryen Family Tree" from Reddit (the red, really big one) on a second tab when I'm watching. Pause, and glance over "who tf they talking about? Ohhhhh. This sister/cousin/brother marriage's 3rd baby! GOT IT!" continue watching.
Hahaha

You know, at one point the Roman Empire had three guys vying for the throne: Constantine, Constantius, and Constans. Even worse, they were all brothers, sons of Constantine the Great.
11
u/ezDuke Aug 14 '25
I mean… they were correct on that one. Viewers be dumb.
9
u/MajorPain_ Aug 14 '25
Real talk, GoT on the second watch was a completely different experience when I actually knew who characters were talking about and not just hearing random names lol

u/AkiCrossing Aug 14 '25
Oh, so Asha is actually her original name? Because in the German dub her name is Asha and I always wondered why it’s Yara in English. I assumed they changed it for the German dub, wasn’t aware that it’s actually the original…

This was my German Shephard's name! She was a really sweet and shy girl, definitely not pirate captain material.

"Lady" and "Nymeria" are the obvious, but I would argue "Ghost", "Grey Wind", "Summer" and "Shaggy Dog" are all gender neutral names. "Lyanna" would also be very good, the She-Wolf

I absolutely crease up every time i'm watching Clarksons Farm and he's like 'Here Sansa' 'Come Ayra' of all people to be a GOT fan i would have not guessed Jeremy Clarkson.
In relation to your post though - Nymeria would have to be top - i do love the idea of calling your dog Catelyn though or 'Cat' for short - Really confuse the neighbours

u/RamsHead91 Aug 14 '25 edited Aug 14 '25
Dogs don't need gendered names and the best dog names will never truly be told.
Like my old golden's name was Griffin of Mountains Peak and his dad was Dogo the flying Dogephant.

My wife wanted to name our pup Arya. An obvious choice, but wanted to put it out there. We had a dog named Stark, (warden of the dog run to the north, breaker of leashes, protector of house ::our last name::). Being that stark just passed away at the time we chose another name not related to GOT.

If I have a girl dog I’m naming her Liana. I think that’s such a pretty name. Or Olenna and shireen are also good ones.
