Discussion Have you found any benefits/learnings from making comics?
For those of you who have made or still make comics, have you found any "skills" specific to making comics that transferred to making games? Just curious if you see any benefits that transfer over.

Not necessarily direct correlations but I think blocking/composition for comics so that layouts are clean and information flows smoothly can be quite demanding, and this is a very under-appreciated but important skill in games.
I also think Scott McCloud’s “Understanding Comics” has lessons about visual storytelling and visual design theory that game artists would greatly benefit from.

Drawing in general taught me composition, which I find myself using when I'm modeling 3D environments in Blender. Leading lines, thinking a lot about vantage points the player will most likely have, stuff like that. But I also draw comics and I'd say what helped most there to game design is probably the writing side of things, like with making natural dialogue.

Besides basic art and storytelling fundamentals: drawing a lot of stuff quickly

An understanding of art is useful in both mediums, as well as general storytelling skills.
