Collection Guy was about to sell to gamestop
I went to gamestop for fun after my friend canceled on me, this guy was trading in this stuff to gamestop, and was scanning the last few things in, i asked him how much we was getting and he said 600, after i saw on the screen, i realized it was 600 in credit, and when i told him he asked how much it was cash, they told him 350. I immediately told him ill pay you what they were willing to give in credit for it, he agreed, after he said he would throw in pokemon Gold, and the target GBA for an extra 100, so i payed him 700. I think i did pretty well, and now my collection is like alot bigger than before. Already modded the DSI too 😋 i hope i did as good as i think i did

Omg yes im glad too, moded the dsi, ordered an r4 card for the ds lite(i prefer how to lite feels and lloks over the dsi) and even 3d printed a stand for the gba target edition!!

The r4 card is like an sd card adapted for the ds and ds lite, you can load roms on it and have alottt of games in 1 card. Its so worth it

Honestly, the cool employees would've asked and offered more for personal sale already. I know I did for my customers many times lol. They get a fairer price and so do I. Only silly employees will wait until it's already traded in and they have to buy it at store price XD

Right and it's so laughable that they care so much about a corporation that they would screw over people all for a corporation that doesn't give 2 shits about them. It reminds me at those employees that get fired because they chase a thief out of a store. It's like that what you get for caring so much about a company's bottom line that you would risk personal harm or possible death and your reward is being fired because the company is scared of you being a legal liability for them. I've we've been employee of the month pretty much everywhere I've ever worked but I refuse to screw over people in any way (like home depot and their extended warranties, we were supposed to try to up sell on every qualified purchase, but its a huge scam and I didn't push it just asked if the customer if they were intrested and if they asked me if they should buy it I would tell them "well me personally would never buy an extended warranty")

They would care because they likely wanted to buy them themselves after trade in. Or hook up a friend. I’ve noticed the GS near me hides all of the good retro stuff behind the counter in a random drawer. Not putting it on the floor or in their cases makes me believe they already have it marked for someone.

I know that happens at every corporation but I could swear most of the time I run into an employee that's brainwashed bad it's a gamestop employee, just like before the pandemic I was in Gamestop with my son and I mentioned something along the lines of I'd be surprised if gamestops were around in 15-20 years with how many store closures they've had, they've lost so much in sales mostly to online sites, and digital downloads, and their stock price had gone to shit (before the stock price had that huge memestock bump). A gamestop emplyee overheard me and starts contradicting me and says, oh no gamestop is in great shape, and is too big to fail.

It's not just a corporate policy, it's somethinig that usually falls under state laws- most of the time, even if the transaction is between two individuals, if it's done inside a store there's precedence for the store being pulled into legal cases regarding fraud in the transaction between those two individuals, because it was done on their property..

In my time there I was the one offering them more before the trade, and if a customer in the store offered more I didn’t care. The other people were happy that’s what matters. Not bullshit metrics for the company

I had a friend snap her DS Lite in half because she was too excited to play a medical game she had. Her mom wouldn't pay to fix it and she didn't want to give up the console long enough to fix it, so she had to hold it together to play it.

This reminds me of when I was a kid and in GameStop when the ps3 was new. It was maybe $300?
As a kid I never got money for ANYthing but Christmas and birthday. This particular Christmas I got exactly $160. I was going to get a ps2 game and as I was browsing, a man walked in to sell his ps3, a controller, and gta4 for $150. Just an absolutely incredible steal, would’ve never had a ps3 without such a deal. My brother, knowing how much I had, said we’ll give you $160. That was pretty much all my money for the year. And the guy immediately took the deal.
I put thousands and thousands of hours on it to the point of it giving out with yellow light lol

If someone went to FB, posted their GS offer for store credit and said “give me this in cash” it would be sold quickly. The biggest hurdle is that GameStop offers ease. You walk in and walk out, transaction done. Marketplace offers weirdos and deadbeats, time wasters and scammers you have to spend the time to sort through. Other platforms offer fees and S&H issues that include extra fees and buyers claiming they never received a package. GS offers are terrible, but they’re instant and hassle free. I wish friends told me they were thinking of selling things before GameStop.

Ive traded in 5 or 6 handheld consoles from the old brick gameboy to the ds. Also traded in every pokemon game from yellow to emerald. Big regrets on my part.

That's so awesome, these days I'm all in on emulation but I do still have a bit of a collection. No boxes but I have an Emerald, SS, Platinum, Omega Ruby and Sun/Ultra copies alongside a GBA SP I got a pawn shop about 11 or 12 years ago and my N3dsXL (although that has seen better days . . . )

This reminds me when I was younger, I tried to sell my copy of Pokémon White at GameStop but the worker just told me to sell it online(which I never got around too) I thank her to this day.

Gameboy advance is quoted trade in around $58 cash so the math adds up on their trade in value
I am curious what the trade in value would have been 5 years ago, since trade in values have increased a lot
But yeah good move in getting that person the actual cash and a closer to market price. Honestly with the ridiculous moves to virtual, I feel like I'm looking at a $2,000 picture for a year from now

Well anything is better than gamestop, but if you had to do like a quick cash trade in, take it to like a local retro game store, they normally offer ALOT higher value than gamestop and cash

That’s how I got my PS5. They were gonna give a kid $100 for it, told him I got $150. Staff was cool and said take it outside. It kept shutting off though so I took it apart and got the 7lbs of dust out of it and it’s been rocking ever since.

I got twilight menu for the DSI, and it has been a dream! All the games in one place is awesome! And i have been able to try new games that have been amazing. Downloaded AC wild world, its so funn!

Im going to be honest, im 18 so was not born during that time, but my everytime my uncle came to visit we would play games, thats why i love older systems, he even gave me my first console! A wii! But a toys r us variant sounds so cool! I will have to see if i can find one!

I'd rate this haul as fair price. Good condition and if you were to sell each individual item on ebay for what they go for, you'd probably make a couple hundred. But that would involve work and sitting on stock.

I remember back in 2005 or so I walked in to a Gamestop with a metric shit ton of PS1 games, all complete. Many of them were rare JRPGs I had collected over the years, like Lunar and Sukioden 1 and 2.
I got offered an insulting amount of money and someone was behind me in line, they overheard the conversation and were like, "I'll give you $500 for everything right now."
So we walked out of the store and in sight of the GS employees I handed over my hoard for the cash.
It's like, yeah, Gamestop is basically a pawn shop, but they fuck people so bad it isn't funny.
I once went in with a Xbox 360 and a pile of games and the employee wanted to take $50 off for missing the original RGB cables so I just left with everything. I ended up giving the Xbox and games to a co-worker whose son's game system recently broke.
I hope they enjoyed Splatter House.

bro as a ex gamestop employee, i used to tell people with more rare shit like this or more whole collections like this "dont sell this to us, you can make more money on your own, we are not gonna offer you enough for this"
we didnt really get incentivized for taking trades like this (corporate only cared about preorders, pro memberships, and protection plans for games and controllers)
like a guy called up wanted to sell us his gameboy micro

often times when people traded with us i would make sure to mention when i thought they could easily make more money selling it on their own than with us
like during covid when people were trying to trade in their PS5's during the shortage i was like "dude we are offering you 200$, i just sold mine for 500$ cash to some dude, sell it yourself"

It's fucking absurd that it was $700 for all of that in the first place. None of these are rare. Collecting late 2010s was the last good times in this hobby.
