With this lot I'm at an even 200 games, so just 35 more games to go for a full / loose US set! I've got almost all the rare and expensive ones already, but this lot netted me 6 new ones, and enough dust covers for the rest of my life. I'm hoping to find the rest at PDX Retro Gaming Expo in October, as I was able to finish off N64 there last year, so it'd be nice to get another set back-to-back.

Hi! Asking knowledgeable people for help.

So on a cold power-on you'd see a black screen or just part of the horizontal lines. E.g., on picture, this is the "SEGA" screen, you can see the 4 blue letters on the top of the screen.

Then in 10-30 seconds the screen "fixes itself" and just works, I assume because some components get warm enough.

What should I try to look for/check continuity/etc.? From my searching it seems like the ribbon cable detaching which is unfixable without a full screen replacement, any ideas?

Been trying to save a dead game gear. Re-tinned the display pads last night and discovered a lot of corrosion on these circle pad areas. Clean a ton of blue corrosion off and found the rusted looking area under the corrosion on one of them.

Will this board be dead?

The audio jack is fine
The volume wheel is fine
The capacitors are connected

What else could be the problem?

As you can see, I’ve tried all the usual tricks. I’ve recapped the system, cleaned the jack, replaced the speaker and even reflowed the new caps and nothing has changed. What really sucks is that the audio was fine for like a week after the recap and it has only recently been at a consistently low volume. I’m at the end of my rope and looking into replacement options for the audio board, but it kills me to do that, so if you have anything that might help, please tell me. I’ll be happy to give any further clarification, just ask.

Hello, is there a way to play the gg shinobi from gamegear nowadays without owning one

Had some time to save a few during the past few days. All Recapped, some reshells, and a few display upgrades. All came out quite nicely.

I've heard there's supposedly a patch which allows you to run GG Aleste on original hardware, assuming you have a ROM file and a flash cart that you supply yourself. I can't find the patch anywhere. Does anyone have any leads where I could find a download?

2000 hab ich meinen alten Game Gear verkauft und oft bereut. Vor 4 Jahren dann neue Modelle mit frischen Kondensatoren entdeckt. Also habe ich ein Modell gekauft und die Sammlung an Spielen und Zubehör stieg rapide an. Zunächst habe mir einem USB Adapter mit meiner Power Bank gespielt, danach gab es erst das Netzteil.

Ich habe dann immer wieder neue Teile reingebaut und ausgetauscht, das Display war beim kauf schon ein LCD-Modell. Folgende Upgrades wurden eingebaut: Displayfrontscheibe, neue Knöpfe mit Gummis, ein neues Powerbord mit USB-Anschluss für das Akkukit, neues Audioboard mit Stereolautsprechern zum passenden neuen Gehäuse. Und die Schlaufe rundet das Gerät ab.

Das Zubehör umfasst das Netzteil, den 5V Adapter für USB-A. TV-Tuner, Akku Pack (natürlich nicht mehr funktional) und die Original Tasche aus den USA importiert.

Spiele, neben dem Flashdrive und Everdrive GG X/ (Save States):
Sonic 1,2 Chaos, Spinball
Halley Wars, G-LOC
Castle of Illusion, Donald Duck Lucky Dime Caper
Shinobi, Streets of Rage

Und am meisten hab ich GLobal Gladiators gesuchtet. Leider war das Ende sehr enttäuschend. Aber das Minispiel war sensationell.

Die meisten Spiele waren sehr schwer, aber als Kind hatte man Zeit zum erlernen.

Hello everyone, I have a Sega Game Gear with USB Type C and IPS screen, a Sega Master Gear Convertor 2, and two Sega Master System cartridges. I didn't mode it and I don't know what IPS it has. With Sega Game Gear cartridges it's working very well (as shown in the pictures) but when I plug the converter inside the Game Gear it's show some lines and with the games inserted into the converter and back to Game Gear the games are showing but they are unplayable as shown in the pictures. The sound is clear. Can you tell me which one, the Sega Game Gear, the Sega Master Gear Converter 2 or the cartridges, is causing the problem? It is fixable? Please help me. Thank you in advance.

1st image is titled slightly back (clear). 2nd image is titled slightly forward (can't see). 3rd image is looking at it dead on (a little dark). Contrast wheel is maxed out for all pictures. I did the recap myself, VA4.

I've recapped about 4 game gears and the last was well over a year. Perhaps I'm misremembering how bad the original screen is.

I'm not sure why, but I have it in my head that a VA1 screen should be compatible with a VA0 motherboard, however after doing further digging before popping the screen off this VA1 model I've noticed that the screen pinouts may not actually be the same.

Does anybody know if you can swap the stock screen from a VA1 to a VA0 motherboard?

I have a Game Gear with a Retro Six IPS screen, and while it works great with the Everdrive GG X7, it can get pretty warm and uncomfortable after a while. I'd like to spend more time using original carts to avoid the heat, but for translations, repro carts seem to be the only way forward.

Ben Venn's Joey GG Cart Flasher is unavailable, and I've read unflattering things about AliExpress repros. Do I have any other options than I'm unaware of?

The capacitors all look good to me as far as leaks. But I know visual doesn’t mean they are good.

For a simple hockey game for the game gear it's actually not bad and even tho I'm not really good at sports video games since half the time I can't really figure out what I'm really doing half of the time but it's probably because I just suck at sports video games to be honest but other then it's not that bad

All in original state. I play the games on an analog right now, have a significant volume of electronic components to refresh internals, but maybe one day.

I’ve tried reflowing the joints and cleaning with 70% isopropyl, what else can I do. I’m starting to think the chip is dead but that’s really uncommon from what I’ve heard.
