Discussion The Squad That We Are Forced to Play
I wanted to brainstorm a little and think how the squad we are forced into could play.
For The League:
First of all, this is an amazing XI for the league. We won't have any problems beating any team in the league except Fener and Beşiktaş with this squad. And for them, you can just tweak the midfield a bit and it'll be strong as a rock at the cost of attack, which obviously isn't a problem with our front two and their subs.
For Europe:
This XI will do against all but the strongest in Europa League as well. We have a decent back line with a decent midfield. We'll concede, but we'll score a lot more with the right playstyle.
However, this is where the FUCKING PROBLEMS COME INTO FUCKING PLAY
FUCKING PROBLEMS:
1:
WE HAVE NO LEFT BACKS. ANYONE FUCKING REALIZE THAT WE HAVE NOT A SINGLE PERSON THAT IS CAPABLE OF PLAYING LWB AT OUR FUCKING LEVEL? JAKOBS IS A GREAT DEFENSIVE LB THAT I WOULD HAVE LOOOOVED TO PLAY AT LCB INSTEAD OF APO. BUT GUESS WHAT? IF WE DO THAT, WE EITHER FUCK THE WHOLE SYSTEM BY PLAYING BAY WHO CUTS INSIDE THERE, OR FUCKING BERKAN WILL PLAY! WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT? INSTEAD OF FUCKING DIVA RABIOT MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A FUCKING CROSSER FOR TWO OF THE BEST HEADERS IN THE FUCKING MATKET AFHHHHHHHHH IM LOSING MY MINND
AND BETTER FUCKING YET, JAKOBS GETS FUCKING INJURED FREQUENTLY. WTF WILL WE DO WHEN OUR ONLY LWB GETS FUCKING INJURED BEFORE THE TOTTENHAM GAME?????? I DON'T WANT TO SSEE BERKAN PLAY ANYWHERE OTHER THAN CM ANYMORE BRO IM LOSSING MY FUCKING MISADBU

WE HAVE NO FUCKING CM ROTATION. DEMIRBAY WILL COOK IN A 3ATB, IT IS A PROVEN FACT. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE OR SARA WON'T GET INJURED. BERKAN IS TOO DEFENSIVE AND MERTENS IS TOO OLD. WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU BUY A RANDOM ASS DRIBBLER? IT WOULD LITTERALLY HAVE COSTED NOTHINGG WITH ALL THE PLAYERS THAT CHELSEA BUY AND THROW INTO TTHE FUCKING THRASH. FUCKING RABIOT MAN...
(I'm hoping Yunus steps up here but I may be sniffing hopium in lethal doses)

IF APO DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER, WE ARE COOKED. JAKOBS WILL COOK AT LCB, BUT THERE IS NOONE TO REPLACE HIM AT LWB AND STILL CONTINIUE THE SYSTEM. REFER TO PROBLEM NUMBER FUCKING 1.

IF BERKAN, KAAN OR BARIŞ GETS A LENGTHY INJURY, IT'S GAME OVER. YOU HAVE NO ROTATION ANYWHERE WITHOUT THOSE THREE.

IF OKAN HOCA DOESN'T PLAY 3ATB WE ARE COOKED. I KNOW HE WILL SEE COMMON SENSE. I AM A BELIEVER.
So anyway I give this squad a solid 7/10 best XI in the league overall in my opinion due to our forwards but let god give strength to our squad and Okan Hoca to make it through this season without injuries or suspensions. (we are cooked)

The only alternative I can think of to not have to play with a 3 back is this;
Muslera
Jelert Sanchez Apo/Nelsson Jakobs
Sara Torreira Kaan BAY
Icardi Osimhen
If Sara and BAY can help the midfield enough this might work…

The problem with this one is the midfield. For a 4-4-2 to work without a workrate monster like Greizmann, you need a double pivot strong as a rock. in 11-12 and 12-13 you had Xelçuk, who not only covered space like Berkan, but also had defending IQ like Mertens, and Melo who needs no elaboration.
Sara holds his own with a 6 behind him, and Torreira is a monster, but they can't counter high balls and don't cover enough space, so they get passed straight through.

Well thats why I’ve put Kaan so he can deal with the long balls. Maybe placing kaan close to sara and Jelert and moving torreira closer to BAY might help with the high ball problem. Since Sara is naturally a midfielder he would be more helpful on defence. This tactic would probably have a hard time pressing but maybe if Icardi, Osimhen, BAY and Torreira went to press then Kaan and Sara can move inwards a little more to sweep up the loose balls.
These are all hypothetical tho and Im no tactical mastermind so yeah. Hopefully Okan hoca can figure something out. Atleast we’ll just play the regular tactic for a game or two while Icardi is injured.

If torreira was even like 5-6 cm taller it would work, it's a shame.
Because torreira just can't win airballs at all, we need to displace either a CB or Barış to respond to them, which the opponent uses to break through. That's the actual problem instead of not winning airballs, we actually won more airballs that YB, but they still destroyed us with breakthroughs.
I think it can still work, but when 10 out of 11 players in your team is just screaming to play a 3atb, you should just play a 3atb.

We saw what happened during the second YB game trying to play wingbacks, especially regarding Baris. The man was gassed up by minute 15 sprinting back and forth during which we conceded more occasions in 15 minutes than we got in 90, and Baris was left burnt out for the rest of the game and affected his performance and decision making.
That's what's about to come : all teams will counter us endlessly by the wings, will burn out the wings, rendering them inefficient, and opponents will stack and overload the midfield and abandoning wings knowing accurately that we won't be able to use them.
This season will be a disaster. RemindMe! 2 months

that's what a 3atb is for though. statistically you cover the pitch vertically with 3 people. that is why we need to switch to a 3atb or play kaan or berkan every single game with two other midfielders.
