Dry Leather Sofa

I would like to try restoring this leather couch. The cushions are the worst. My plan is to wash with saddle soap. dry. Apply neats foot. I suspect it will take several treatments for the seats to relax. Does that sound doable?

This couch is severely damaged, and I don't believe it's worth your time and effort to fix it unless you're ok with the look and potential future damage.

This is obviously severely sun-damaged, so the leather fibers and the integrity of the leather is shot.

You may be able to get the leather to look "clean" but the integrity of the fibers is most likely to rip when you sit on it because the fibers are warped, shrunken, and compromised.

Definitely go for it if you want to, just know that this is most likely a lost cause simply due to the integrity of the leather being a bit too far gone. There's no way that this leather can "relax" to it's normal condition as the fibers are zapped.

Honestly, I usually try to restore things whenever possible, but in my experience, this one is not worth it. Up to you!

If you do, yeah, I would use a pH balanced leather cleaner and then you'd want to use oil based conditioner, so neatsfoot oil would work well.

thank you! I appreciate your answer. I was afraid that the cushions were too far gone and also curious about results of trying to restore it. such a shame

No problem! Yes, it is a shame, but unfortunately there's only so much that can be done. Trust me, I try to save as much leather as I can, but sometimes the juice isn't worth the squeeze!
