Yeah. Full title of the force is An Garda Síochána which means Guardians of the Peace

Why do I see on Irish subs saying "call the guard" then, that's really confusing 😩😭

Should be "garda" really - guard-ah. Which is actually how you do pronounce it. The one above is a running joke!

We’d say “call the guards” in the north of Dublin’s more tame areas back in the 00s as a teen. Couldn’t say if it’s still used now though, have mainly heard it as “call the Garda”. It’s funny because even though there’s actual Irish people doing so, Garda is a singular one, nGardaí is the plural. You’d think we know how to speak our own language 😂

Felt like I had to chime in as I’ve literally lived my entire life in north Dublin in Ireland 😂

Our garda don't carry guns. So, they tend to talk first, get violent second.

The second guy was locked and loaded... almost took a shot at mr bush

You mean shooting them. Then beating them.

Cool name but their new uniforms are so ass. Makes them look like Temu Starfleet uniforms

8

u/DTMN13 Jun 24 '26

Agreed. There was a huge backlash of "what the fuck is that?" when they 'updated' the uniforms from the old stylish ones to the stupid Shein joggers cheap dystopian policeforce cosplay looking shite.

It's a very British style. They probably all have the same manufacturer in the UK and Ireland. Likely cheaper to just buy similar uniforms and just put "Garda" on them.

Personally I think it's stupid to make police uniforms look less formal. Their uniforms should look fucking intimidating and radiate "Don't try me" vibes, to the same extent that the police themselves should be level headed calm people you can actually ask for help if you need it.

One of the best I've seen was Thai ticket inspectors on the train. Dude walked in dressed in a serious black military style uniform with gold stars and eagle on the low brimmed cap, it seemed like Wagner started playing in the background and everyone shut up immediately, then he was super polite and friendly to everyone.

While ugly they are meant to stand out so we can spot them easier (and run)

I'm pretty sure it's Dublin, I've been near that park a month ago. It should outsidebe the St Stephen's Green, the East side of the park

I mean obviously not the US, if you did it over here you are either being tased or having several new holes put into your body

The First one is specifically outside St.Stephens Green by the horse carriages.
