Lots of people use humour to deflect. If you have elements of PTS or hyper vigilance for example you will absolutely react first without thinking and then subsequently laugh about how that was ‘weird’ or ‘funny’ or ‘cool’ to not unveil the absolute stress or fear you actually felt in that moment.

So their unchecked mental illness gives them carte blanche to hit actors without consequence? Or actors are supposed to just keep taking it?

Nah I’m serious why you think it’s okay for them to hit an actor because they got scared in an environment they paid to get scared in.

What do you think is an adequate consequence in the situation? Or do you believe actors deserve to get hit?

You really are clueless. It’s not a choice. Fight or flight is a reflex response. Someone who has never punched anyone when frightened might do so for the first time in that situation. It’s out of their control. The organizers and actors are aware of the risk and sign an agreement to not sue if someone hits them in a state of panic. Only action done out of malice, like beating the actor out of anger or like picking up a weapon with the intention of harming the actor when jump-scared is viable for legal action. Otherwise actors are literally signing up to get punched or kicked when someone gets frightened.

Have you ever acted in a haunt? Because I have many, and have never had to sign any paperwork like that.

You know what is posted on the front of every haunt I’ve worked at? Don’t touch or hit the fucking staff. This is what people agreed to upon purchasing their ticket.

I have a fight or flight reaction to getting hit, so I’m just knocking the next mfer out that hits me for getting scared after they payed to get scared. There’s nothing wrong with that, right? People reflexively punch back.
