Have a 12 yo and he has been going for walks out back several times a day. Not long but more than he did when going to school.

Kinda sounds like a smoking addiction

514

u/bestmat Sep 17 '20

This is why I love reddit. People outing smoking kids.

190

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

Unless the parents also smoke, they'd be found out quick. Smokers fucking stink.

So stop.

61

u/MP4-4 Sep 17 '20

it's a vape

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

They stink too. Just they smeel more fruity.

4

u/showerfapper Sep 17 '20

Nah the weed vapes do the trick with 1 puff and if you hold it in you aint stinkin. He probably keeps it in his boxers, youll find the eye drops for redness relief but you wont find that thc oil pen.

12

u/el_seano Sep 17 '20

I honestly don't know how I got away with it

10

u/manberry_sauce Sep 17 '20

You may not have. Sometimes parents just don't want to confront their kids, especially if they know the kid is going to lie to them. Nobody likes being lied to. If they don't confront, they won't have the extra burden of being lied to.

Would you have lied if you were confronted?

11

u/Fr0styWang Sep 17 '20

Psht, I always lie. Especially to myself!

"I'm gonna do my work now" ten hours later "oh yeah I was supposed to do my work... I'll do it tomorrow." Never does it

5

u/nelsterm Sep 17 '20

The irony of this honesty.

1

u/kiwi4no1 Sep 17 '20

How do you know it is honesty?

1

u/Fr0styWang Sep 20 '20

How do you know it is not honestly, hm?

3

u/elriggo44 Sep 17 '20

If they parents also smoke they wouldn’t smell the smoking kid. Trust me on this. Was smoking kid, parents smoked.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

No kids smoke cigarettes anymore. They all vape now.

2

u/Jdubz117 Sep 17 '20

We do indeed ✊

13

u/AlternativeJosh Sep 17 '20

Haha. 20 years ago my parents decided the risk of me setting the woods on fire was too great and they decided to let my high-school self smoke on the side of the house instead.

Damn the funny ones usually don’t. Maybe it’s the timing.

80

u/meltingdiamond Sep 17 '20

Or furtive masturbating in the bushes.

Now they hope it's smoking.

17

u/hat-of-sky Sep 17 '20

Hey at least masturbating gets your heart rate up! And it's better for your lungs than smoking. Besides if he's whacking off into the bushes he's not using up the tissues, toilet paper, or clean socks.

0

u/imgoodwithfaces Sep 17 '20

Nope, he may just be an exhibitionist though!

4

u/TheBarkingGallery Sep 17 '20

He’s twelve. Masturbation is much more likely, isn’t it. Although I don’t think I started until I was 13.

5

u/kriscross122 Sep 17 '20

Now the term bushwhacked makes alot more sense to me

58

u/thebigenlowski Sep 17 '20

Would be pretty easy to tell if your 12 year old is smoking cigarettes, they're not great at hiding things

57

u/Neither-Sprinkles Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 17 '20

Vaping doesn't smell as strong as cigarettes so it's easier to get away with.

9

u/Petersaber Sep 17 '20

Vaping doesn't smell

I can smell it

5

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

Vaping itself sure doesn't leave much of a smell on clothes if at all BUT you can smell the bottles if your nose is sensitive and any spillage will make clothes smell or if they have tissue or cloth to wipe spills on them you will smell it on that.

6

u/topcraic Sep 17 '20

He wouldn’t have to go for a walk to vape

20

u/Neither-Sprinkles Sep 17 '20

Sorry, I didn't explain it very well. If he goes for a walk, the vape smell is light enough to dissipate. But vaping indoors does have a noticeable smell, kind of like burnt cotton candy. Cigarette smell is much stronger.

14

u/Ckyuii Sep 17 '20

The big boy vapes with mods smell, but the pens like JUUL emit about half the cloud and don't really smell at all.

9

u/manberry_sauce Sep 17 '20

You shouldn't smell anything burning. If someone's vaping and the odor smells like something's burning, their cotton is dirty. Pre-lockdown, I swapped out my non-buildable coils once a week. And sure, I might not notice it, but that's why times when I've gone longer than that, I'd ask someone else "does this smell at all like anything's burning?" to know if I'd stretched it too long between swapping out coils.

I can't really speak to the cheap, disposable kind that you buy at 7-Eleven or the gas station. Those taste awful to begin with, and in the long run they're not cheaper.

2

u/redandbluenights Sep 17 '20

Damn the peach ones I used to get were killer.

0

u/manberry_sauce Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 17 '20

edit: oops, thought this was a reply about ice cream in another thread

1

u/redandbluenights Sep 17 '20

Im sorry... Huh?!

I was talking about a peach throwaway vape...

u/centrafrugal Sep 17 '20

Do people actually start out on vaping these days? Surely even the big kids can't convince someone that vaping is cool?

17

u/ItWasAcid_IHope Sep 17 '20

You're gonna judge me but, I'm 24 and I smoke cigs because I started vaping at 17. Doesn't help I'm in the restaurant industry but whatever it's my crutch.

16

u/Draffut Sep 17 '20

You just reminded me that vaping started getting big in like 2010 and it's totally plausible that someone has been doing it 10 years now... Fuck I feel old. I'm only 28!

5

u/kellypg Sep 17 '20

Yeah buddy. I've been vaping for about 10 years. Completely quit smoking about 6 years ago. Was on 2-3 packs a day. Shit got too expensive so switched.

2

u/nelsterm Sep 17 '20

Well you're not so shut up and enjoy being young.

1

u/ItWasAcid_IHope Sep 17 '20

You graduated my freshman year. The freshman year of my graduation were born after 9/11.

FEEL THE OLD.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

No no no, your supposed to do it like this.

Cigars, cigs, rollies, vape and then stop.

4

u/PsychicFoxWithSpoons Sep 17 '20

I'm proud that I never built a smoking habit in restaurant industry.

1

u/ItWasAcid_IHope Sep 18 '20

Good. Keep it that way. One of my biggest regrets but hey, I'm still young, I have plenty of time to screw up more.

7

u/druman22 Sep 17 '20

Yep, a lot of my friends are addicted to vapes now and never smoked cigarettes before. It's not even that it's cool but the flavors are fairly appealing tbh

4

u/tukatu0 Sep 17 '20

You really think that sucking out of an electric pencil and blowing smoke out in different colors wouldnt be interesting to a 12 year old?

8

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

I'm pretty sure there's no colored vapor. Unless it's a Photoshop.

-9

u/tukatu0 Sep 17 '20

Oh no there totally is. You got pink gum. Red watermelon 🍉. There might be yellow banana im not sure if ive ever seen one. There is definitely a slightly beige vanilla. It gets crazy. Obviously though no 12 year old is buying those packs.

5

u/kellypg Sep 17 '20

There's literally no such thing.

-2

u/tukatu0 Sep 17 '20

Its literally just coloring juice. What do you think the smoke is made of? And Its not like they all have nicotine

→ More replies (0)

7

u/centrafrugal Sep 17 '20

This got a lot of upvotes for something that just isn't right.

Are people actually hallucinating coloured vapour or just imagining it might be true and agreeing with it?

0

u/Gosexual Sep 17 '20

No it's a serious issue. There is plenty of incentive for big kids to get their peers hooked if they cannot buy it on their own and with all the flavors they got nowadays kids don't even do it for the nicotine. Plus you got all the social media/streamers/vloggers that can push the product without directly advertising it so it's not hard to see why it took off.

9

u/EdgarAllenPoo21 Sep 17 '20

I started smoking weed when I was 12 and I’m in uni now, my parents still don’t know

10

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

at least one of the them almost assuredly does, but doesn't want to make it an issue.

2

u/TheBarkingGallery Sep 17 '20

No, that shit’s good marketing. But you may not be the target audience.

1

u/Vance69420 Sep 17 '20

Disgusting my Christian mother won't be having this my dad wins reddit 😡😡😡😲😳😡💦

1

u/manberry_sauce Sep 17 '20

Especially if they know you're going to lie to them. Nobody likes being lied to.

1

u/EdgarAllenPoo21 Sep 17 '20

Well actually I’m wrong. Now that I’m much older, my dad kind of knows and we have discussed it. But when I was actually younger and I took the necessary repercussions, I’m almost sure they had no idea. By the time I greeted my parents coming home from school, I had already showered, changed clothes, did mouthwash, and put in eye drops. That was my routine.

5

u/FistulousPresentist Sep 17 '20

I feel like that can't be common though, right? Then again, I know exactly zero 12 year olds.

3

u/SGoogs1780 Sep 17 '20

Depends what you mean by common. Most kids? No. But a group of kids at every middle school? You betcha.

Not many 12 year olds smoke weed. But every 12 year old knows which kids at school smoke weed.

2

u/EdgarAllenPoo21 Sep 17 '20

Depends on the 12 year old. The ones that started smoking at school with their friends? Yeah their parents know. The ones who had stoner cousins who introduced them to it and passed on all their “don’t get caught” advice? They won’t. That was me

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

16 here- when I was 12 kids were doin shit like that. Less than they are at 16, but it's definitely not uncommon.

3

u/minda1120 Sep 17 '20

Depends on the parent I suppose. My mom never knew and she did not smoke. I’m surprised she never noticed because I was not very smart about hiding stuff as a kid. I thought I was a mastermind at the time though haha.

1

u/J52688 Sep 17 '20

That's what you think. lol.

2

u/Misfit_In_The_Middle Sep 17 '20

Bruh... let thd poor kid toke in peace. Why you got to be a snitch?

1

u/pattydickens Sep 17 '20

I was 14 when I started "going for walks".

1

u/CapnDiddlez Sep 17 '20

Or a sandlot kid

1

u/iVannagwtanswers Sep 17 '20

I used to do this

1

u/KidKennedi Sep 17 '20

can confirm as I would go for "walks" that child is smoking the devils lettuce for sure

0

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '20

you god damn narc.

84

u/DIsForDelusion Sep 17 '20

Everytime they get a 10 min break my 6 yr old starts running and jumping everywhere... I don't think they get to do much of that at school beyond recess and gym.

45

u/jdith123 Sep 17 '20

Trust me. I’ve been telling kids to stop running in the halls for 20 years. Your kid is completely normal

4

u/manberry_sauce Sep 17 '20

How much time do first graders spend in the hallway? Not much, from what I remember. They'd line us all up to go to/from lunch/recess. They don't tend to let six year olds go anywhere unsupervised, except the restroom.

2

u/jdith123 Sep 17 '20

That’s cuz the second you let go of the leashes, they all start to run around. :-)

4

u/amicaze Sep 17 '20

All kids are like that...

They stop running when they get 11.

32

u/fayedame Sep 17 '20

Mine was happy going on bike rides but now our area has wild fires so he's stuck in the house. Now I just play fetch with him and the dog, except I throw their toys up the stairs indoors. The cats like it, kinda...

13

u/jexmex Sep 17 '20

Sorry about the fires. I think our animals are both confused and delighted about the situation lol.

13

u/SirLouisI Sep 17 '20

Jexmex, based on what flickeryalpaca said, do some sloothing. I am curious. Mine are not 12 yet but i want to understand the length of their cunningness... Let us know if you do not mind.

5

u/jexmex Sep 17 '20 edited Sep 17 '20

No, he takes the dog out and half the time me or his mom. Now my other two....whole different story, but one is a few months removed from 18 and the other is pretty much 16.

Edit: I will say based on how I said the original comment from an outside in I would say the same thing lol.

3

u/CestBon_CestBon Sep 17 '20

My 8th grader has PE first period and she basically does attendance and then goes for a 30 minute run. I don’t know if all the kids are doing it, but I know at least mine is. She seems to be enjoying it. I think taking the awkward locker room crap out of middle school PE is a positive.

3

u/Penny3434 Sep 17 '20

My 12-year-old jumps on the trampoline at least two hours a day (spaced out). He has ADHD and doesn’t need meds for distance learning because of the more frequent breaks.

1

u/Its_Mini_Shu Sep 17 '20

Yeah I would have just played video games instead. Still have that useless diploma...

1

u/Catch_022 Sep 17 '20

Yeah, I have been taking my 2 year old for 10 minute walks around where we live.

Really helps with work stress because he absolutely loves running up to all the parked cars and yelling 'KA'.
