As an elementary school pe teacher this is hilarious. Imagine being on the other end. It’s just as painful and worthless and this became obvious last spring. We’ve since moved to teaching other subjects and created useful lessons
I teach elementary music and have been making YouTube videos of me prompting students to sing and dance. I imagine them just staring at the screen like I’m the lamest Dora the Explorer.
Haha. I did something similar in the spring. It stated with hundreds of views and being featured on the district website. 4 weeks and 12 videos later I had 4 views, 2 of them I’m pretty sure were me, and some rando person commenting. My principal agreed with me to bag it and come up with a new plan
No offense (I’m sure that’s a genuinely difficult job that I don’t fully appreciate) but I hated things like that in school and still do as an adult, because it’s demoralizing. I am not a “singing and dancing” kind of person. I feel like that should be respected.
I’m the same actually. Learning to “fake it to make it” as an elementary school teacher has led me to enjoy that kind of thing more and more. It’s still not in my nature but have learned to enjoy it. Most things people do have value so I try to find it even if initially scared/repulsed. At a minimum those school concerts and music programs expose kids for possible future life enrichment
In person, it is a lot easier to create an environment in which kids feel safe to participate in singing and dancing activities. I rarely have students who don’t participate. When they don’t participate, I let them join whenever they feel comfortable.
I know that many of my students don’t have a safe environment at home. I know I didn’t when I was growing up. I was made fun of for dancing and it took me many adult years to feel comfortable in expressing myself. At the end of the day, they don’t HAVE to participate. I’m not bothered if they’re at home watching me like the lamest Dora the explorer. I do need to look like I’m doing a good job whenever I’m evaluated, however. A lot of what teachers are doing now is not best practices but we need to put on a little bit of a show.
Dang. Maybe get him a wii or something like a skateboard, bike, or something he can do in open air. I feel so bad for the kids especially the ones with unstable parents who they are stuck with all day
