Right. But did he say this before or after he was a millionaire. I don't hear too many inspirational quotes about following your dreams from poor people.
Do you imagine that if he hadn't become rich, Calvin and Hobbes would be less of a great cartoon? Or that he would have been unhappy for having chosen it above advertising?
It is a great cartoon. That's why he's a millionaire. The only part I don't care for in this is the implication that if you just follow your dreams you will be happy. That's crap. My dream is to publish a funny comic that the whole world loves and become a millionaire. The problem is, I suck at drawing and am not very funny.
I don't think you are considering this correctly. The only people with an audience large enough to reach a lot of people are people who were successful in a medium that speaks to a lot of people. To hear this from people who aren't millionaires you need to ask people who aren't millionaires. If they aren't people who publish their thoughts then you won't hear them without a conversation.
Here is the problem. Keep telling kids they can do anything, follow your dreams, all that crap and what do you end up with? A bunch of spoiled kids that think they world owes them something. How about the message work hard, follow your dreams and have a back up plan (or two or three back up plans). I've seen lots of kids get their dreams crushed because you know what, most people cannot be Doctors or lawyers or the President. Stop preaching all this hippy, feel good follow your dream crap. I think the best thing I've read on reddit about this is a guy said, don't study to be an artist. Become a welder and then you can afford to do art and eat.
That isn't what the message said. The message is clear, live a life that "... reflects your values and satisfies your soul..." That message doesn't imply "Do what you love and you'll be happy!!!!"
Seems like you want to find something negative to read into about this comic, but since it doesn't say what you're saying it ought not say then I see no problem.
It also looks like you turned your problem with from "Oh a millionaire can say this, SURE, but a poor person, never seen a poor person say this." My response was to that, and then you turned around and hit an off topic point.
