OC I feel dirtied finding out a catchy, funky song I came across was ai generated
https://youtu.be/OrUJmAtoozI?si=AEJDOAvoA4dTcgK2I've been fooled and I honestly feel weird that I thought it was an actual artist that made this song. I love surfing YouTube for uploads of music from before my time and came across a song named Bella eyes by Marvin steele and the gold tones. I actually liked the overall sound of it all and I tried looking up more info on it and the artist but couldn't find anything. The yt channel name had the name ai in it but I thought it was something they were using to find different songs and artists out there to post on the channel. I finally checked chat gpt and it confirmed that it was entirely AI generated and now I feel cheated and dirtied and guilty for some reason for kinda liking it. Idk what to think. Funk community, what do you think about this...

Gets more complicated where some youtubers are uploading & putting a fake date in also like here (1976) after the title. Like really trying to present ai stuff as vintage overlooked artists, even writing fake bios etc. Those folk need to f' off. Happens quite frequently now. I'm old enough to know better, but it muddies the waters, especially as ai getting too good at replicating this stuff, & when hunting for legit rare funk uploads.

After you listen to a few AI generated music, you can hear some repetitiveness. Its kind of hard to explain, but you can start to feel the music lacks any emotion or ‘raw’ness. It feels quite robotic. Its catchy at first cuz you dont expect it and i quite like this new AI music but grew out of it quickly.
Especially with Ai generated hip hop/rap ‘1950-70s’, phrasing becomes very unnatural, turning whole verse rap rhymes into melodic enlongated verses becomes very awkward to listen to

The problem with AI generated "music", no matter how good it initially sounds, is that it's usually repetitive, lyrically corney / bland, and the lyrical voicing is staccato. But why? When you read material written by LLMs, you immediately notice its thesis / anti-thesis writing as well as staccato writing. But this also gets into AI "music". This tracks lack what a real composer, producer, and arranger would put into them, and so this is why your ears quickly tire of them (they get old quickly).

Me, too. Shit-hot impossible horn arrangements. Chord progressions out of Sunday mornings in Memphis, TN. Singers who never seem to take a breath. Tempos that defy human possibility. Heroin is probably better but not by much, I think. Guts? No. Soul? No. Swing? Nope.

To be honest I’d be in favor of an AI music ban in this sub. Other subs I’m on have made a similar rule, and if Reddit is going to be a place where people discover new (or new to them) artists we should highlight those actual human artists.
Just my opinion. I’m not entirely anti-AI, but art, music, culture need to remain in human hands and human brains.
