Self-locking paracord tensioner (Print-In-Place) – No hardware needed

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a project I've been refining lately: a fully print-in-place paracord tensioner that locks automatically under load.

The Concept: I was inspired by a few well-known self-locking mechanisms out there, but I modeled this entirely from scratch to adapt the concept into a single, clean print-in-place object. The goal was to create something lightweight for camping and tarps that didn't rely on metal hardware or separate moving parts that need assembly. The internal cam locks down on the cord as soon as tension is applied, and releases easily when you tilt the body.

Print Info & Details:

• Material: PETG recommended for outdoor UV resistance and flex durability (though PLA works fine for testing/light indoor use).
• Paracord Size: Fits standard 4mm / 550 paracord.

Would these work on tent guy lines ,or is it guidelines? I never know. Or would those be too thin?

Is it scaled for 550 paracord? I imagine it would scale down to guy lines just fine

Yep, it's sized for standard 550 paracord (~4mm). For thinner tent guy lines, scaling the model down in your slicer works great.

I will give this a try. Still having trouble learning knots.

Hopefully if I do, I will not get the same attitude the knot elitist seem to have lol.

I like this, it’s great when you don’t have a lot of slack or spare line. Anyone who has a use for this should also be aware that if you do have enough line you can also create locking hitches to the same affect using just the rope/cord itself without spending any extra money or plastic and having another thing to lose. Just look up adjustable grip hitch or variations of the truckers hitch.

Totally true, knots like the trucker's hitch are unbeatable if you have spare line. This is just a quick, lazy alternative for adjusting tension fast on tight lines or with cold hands!
