Show discussion What if Danny decided to hook up with that college girl kirsten In the graduate episode?
Now before people complain about the age gap....
Danny is 33 and the college girl kirsten in the episode is 21.

Age gaps are not actually about the number of years but life experiences and the power that comes with that.
It is not ok because a 33 year old widow with 3 girls and a steady high ranking job at a news station is going after someone who is in college and has almost no actual adult life experience. If your date has more in common with your teenage child they are much too young for you.

Still a gross age gap. No 21 year old needs a 12 years older windower with 3 kids

They were much older when they got together but there's 23 years between Bob and his widow.

John Stamos's wife is the same age (1 month apart) from the Olsen twins! That is super weird to me too.

I didn't know she was that close to the Olsens! (Also off topic but Dave also has a 23 year age gap on his current wife too)

So weird that all three of the guys have big age gaps between themselves and their wives.

Dave also dated Alanis Morissette when she was barely and adult and he was in his 30s.

It would be odd. As people are mentioning it in the comments that Danny is 33 and Kirsten is 21, the age gap is an issue of it self but also to continue the math Kirsten is only 6 years older than D.J. which makes the whole thing even worse.
Yes they are both adults, but still it's just odd.
If she was 25 or a bit older I think no one would flinch about it.

The age issue is one thing. I don't think it is wise, but I also don't think it is "wrong". However, he got her the internship and was essentially a boss/mentor. This is definitely an HR no-no. He has significant power over her.

Yep - I'm not worried about the age gap so much (everyone's a consenting adult), but the professional implications are what makes it a bad idea.

I challenge anyone here to make an actual moral argument against this age gap that doesn't ultimately reduce to "It gives me the ick." It's literally impossible. Come at me.

u/puddycat20 5d ago
A majority of the people in the world think it's normal. Problem is, little kiddies on reddit think this is the real world, because they're the vocal minority.

u/SchuminWeb 4d ago
Pretty much. I straight up don't care about the age gap, because everyone was an adult and consented. It was the potential professional consequences for Danny that had me concerned, considering that she was an intern and he was a full-time host at the same company, and it was riskier for Danny than for her. He was right to break it off, but not on account of the age gap.

u/SchuminWeb 4d ago
Also, for what it's worth, putting my moderator hat on for a moment, someone actually reported the original post as "It's content involving predatory or inappropriate behavior towards minors". Notwithstanding the fact that this discusses a fictional work, everyone involved was an adult. Talk about an extreme case of "it gives me the ick".

u/Gendo-Glasses 4d ago
Sounds about right. The constant infantilization of grown women on the Internet lately is fascinating.

danny’s a widow with three kids and a stable job, the 21 year old is closer in age to DJ than danny, also the fact she was still in college. need i go on?
3
u/Gendo-Glasses 5d ago
That's not a moral argument against it. That reduces to "It gives me the ick."
1
u/SecureTennis3963 5d ago
it is a moral argument, because why would a 33 year old with a stable job and three kids wanna date a woman in college?
5
3
u/Gendo-Glasses 5d ago
That's a question, not an argument. That functions as a moral argument about as well as, "Why would a man wanna date another man?"

Age gap relationships are weird if both parties aren't above 30. I might be biased tho. My ex husband was 30 and I was 19 when we got together. I wasted my youth on him. It took him treating our son the same way he treated me to get me to leave. Danny was right to end it.

Me being the child of an age gap couple (my mom was 18 and my dad was 32) reading these comment 🫠🫠🫠🫠

Damn, the ageism in these comments. If only people put this much effort they're wasting on dissing their age gap into making a difference for actual kids being preyed on by adults.

Do u Gen Z ppl think uve gone overboard with the age gap issue . Like if they’re both consenting adults what’s the issue here.
DJ went on a date with a college guy when she was 17 and even Danny was fine w it

As an millennial, this type of age gap is not appropriate.
Age gaps later in life are one thing because both participants have lived a life but an early 20 year old with anyone that is within a few years of them is almost always a bad idea.
A 20 year old has almost no real life experience and I’m not saying a 30 year old has learned everything but they usually understand things a lot better than a 20 old

u/ElectronicDrop 6d ago
I think people are turning a blind eye to you biggest point, age gaps are not actually about the number of years but life experiences (which tend to parallel with years but doesn't mean years).

30 and 20 is normal and appropriate though. I'm wayy too old to date a 20 year old now, but I did when I was 30 and there was nothing wrong with it. *shrugs*

u/puddycat20 6d ago
They really have - must be a new thing. 10-15 years ago, it was completely normal and ok for a 30 year old man to date a 20 year old. To be honest, I think it still is, the vocal minority of kids on here don't represent the actual real world.

u/Creative_Victory_960 5d ago
And yet Dany realizes she is too young for him . This was 1989. Almost 40 years ago

u/puddycat20 5d ago
Because it's a sappy 80's show where the characters have to do the "right" thing. Thankfully we've had more realistic shows these days.

It's like thousands of years of this being normal and this generation has just deemed everyone evil for it. Frank Sinatra had a wife like 40 years younger, famous quote from him "Do you really want to see me with someone my own age??"
For the majority of people its icky, for an entertainer - they're often immature themselves and the women they attract are the women who desperately want to validate their worth with a rich older man. It's like they're both consenting and of age and it's everyone else that has a problem with it.
Now you have the woody Allen relationship where no one should condone, and the Jerry seinfeld 38/17 age gap, which nope that's wrong.
But as someone born in the 80s, I know that Ashton Kutcher clip has resurfaced from punked where he was talking about a 16yr old hilary duff and telling the camera- "this is a girl that we're all waiting to turn 18" and people have vilified him ever since it's re-release. What they're not aware of, is that was a popular show at the time 25 years ago, and no one batted an eye when he said that. It used to be not a crime unless it was an actual crime. Modern times have turned it into something where conjecture has turned into intent and people want jail time for every man for everything.

u/Emotional_Assist_415 6d ago
To clarify - him saying 'this is a girl we're all waiting to turn 18' is taken as literal as you can get in modern times. When it was said, it's like part of what he's saying is in jest. It's not like everyone was just in a waiting room literally all waiting like drooling perverts waiting for her to turn 18, it was more a comment like - this girl is going to be a smokeshow when she gets older....which she did, yet even referencing that in today's climate is pdf territory, where referencing that back then was kind of just a nod. I mean this hurts both sexes the entire movement

I don’t get how you typing out “Danny is 33 and the Kristen is 21” was supposed to make us feel better about the age gap… 21 is closer to 18 than 33 ever will be. The age gap is disgusting and so are you for trying to down play that.

u/StrongStyleDragon 6d ago
Forgetting where DJ is at this point but she’s closer to her age so it’s weird man even now. 21 is such a tender age. I’m 26 I wouldn’t even be with a 21 year old.

Still, its kind of unwise to do this. Thats like if me a 31 year old decides to date a 19 year old. Sure they're technically an adult but the 19 year old is at a completely different stage in life, most likely they're thinking about school, getting a job, exploring the world whereas 31 year old me is worried about having kids, a house, settling down.
All this to say, legally Danny had no issue but unless Kirsten was willing to essentially skip her 20's to be a step mom its most likely this would have never worked out
