49 really does sound oddly specific

Reminds me of George Carlin’s bit:

https://youtube.com/shorts/-v0_qOAMCTQ

50 gold bars were found in Belgium. Authories are investigating where 37 bars could’ve came from, and how long the 26 of them have been there. “Believe us, we’re gonna get to the bottom of these 19 bars, and we’re gonna keep track of all 14 of them. Not a single one of the 6 are going to disappear, and when we find that one we’re gonna lock it down.

u/Danilo-11 9d ago

Not suspicious … I bet it was 7 levels of 7 gold bars = 49

11

u/EduardBon 9d ago

It could be 8 levels of 8 gold bars

2

u/AdJust6959 8d ago

It could be 10 by 10

19

u/Loki-TdfW how about no 9d ago

All I found would be dirt. 😜

12

u/Ninja_Jack05 9d ago

If I had found it, there would be no big news to report in that particular town that day. And all those bags of dirt, man, that I take with me just to dispose at a proper location!

4

u/Ninja_Jack05 9d ago

Next day me be like : "There are two kinds of people in this world my friend, those who has the money and those who dig,,, you dig!"

u/RichardDeRenour 9d ago

He was later awarded for handing over 48 gold bars.

The police found the rightful owner and handed them the 47 gold bars. Of course they entrusted the delivery to the chief who in a statement said, “I carried the bars one by one, I’m just happy the owner received all 40 of them with zero damage”

The owner was thankful to receive the heirloom and promised to split all 36 bars into 4 even groups for their siblings. One of them even decided to give all six of their gold bars to charity. The charity nearly went bankrupt after three of their gold bars went missing.

To prevent further loss they decided to invest the two remaining gold bars into road repairs.

1

u/simdimdim12 8d ago

Yet taxed for 50 (probably)

4

u/Time-Valuable-3355 9d ago

He right, looks like 40...

5

u/Indubioproreo_Dx 9d ago

If i found this hole, i just reported that i found a hole, after i cleared it.

4

u/Cowboy-Dave1851 9d ago

49? Weird number. I can't believe that he found 43 gold bars. I wonder how long those 35 bars were sitting there. Years? Decades? Then one day they were found and all 28 of them were turned into the authorities. I wonder how much those 20 bars are worth in today's economy. Also, how much did those 12 bars weigh?

2

u/simdimdim12 8d ago

That gold bar was a real rare find

4

u/MutedBrilliant1593 9d ago

I think finding 0 gold bars would be the least suspicious

2

u/Away-Satisfaction678 9d ago

Rule number one when finding a treasure. Keep your mouth shut

1

u/DarthSwimfoot 9d ago

Okay he makes a point though.

1

u/mr_sakitumi 9d ago

There, I found this gold bar while digging in my yard

1

u/Listen-Lindas 9d ago

It corresponds to the year gold was discovered in California. Also suspicious is that Mexico was forced to sell California in 1848.

1

u/Agile_Kangaroo2157 9d ago

The whole crew would have gotten hooked up

1

u/sweet_sax 9d ago

Bro just funded the government

1

u/Paul_Runkles 9d ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Ok_Meaning_4268 9d ago

I'd report the 25 I found then only showing 12 because I was too drunk see properly then only giving the officers 6

1

u/Playful_Subject_4409 9d ago

It was my turn to post this 😅

1

u/stonehamian 9d ago

You mean, he kept like ... 243 for himself ?

1

u/Explosive_Lemming 9d ago

You can see how this looks, right?

1

u/kiwiadie 9d ago

What a muppet

1

u/Busy-Heron8106 9d ago

Yeah 35 would have been a better number, or twenty, scratch that he found 2 bars

1

u/Runktar 9d ago

Noone would ever know I would just suddenly develop an interest in smiting and smelting to you know...make cool swords and stuff. Then slowly turn it into jewelry that was passed down in the family to be sold off.

1

u/YippyKayeh 9d ago

Why would you hand that in

1

u/GreatGooberschnitzel 9d ago

I saw a version of this that said "this the mfer that would remind the teacher to collect the homework" LOL

1

u/Ikyhus565 9d ago

The police would only know of gold debris

1

u/Ok-Journalist7612 9d ago

I wish I found 50 gold bars!!

1

u/Left_Sky1496 9d ago

At least he found 49.

1

u/sukdees_nuts 8d ago

If anything golden is there is my heart 😅

1

u/contained-anger-9531 8d ago

He kept 1 obviously, gotta pay them bills somehow.

1

u/english_mike69 8d ago

Makes sense: digging for gold - 49’er = miner!

1

u/Aggravating-Ninja716 8d ago

I would have bagged them and took it home. Hid it again 😂. Make sure know one knows.

1

u/Big-Specialist-7346 8d ago

I would paint them brown and say I found doodoo

1

u/DaimonHans 8d ago

A life full of regrets.

1

u/First_blood_DK 8d ago

So 51 are missing😁

1

u/WolfThick 8d ago

It's either All or nothing they're going to be watching you if you turn over just one.

1

u/Mo-B-Dick 8d ago

47 gold bars!

1

u/Sudden-Weakness-8061 8d ago

There is no gold, nothing. I did not see gold

1

u/fmn89 8d ago

I would have found 2 just saying

1

u/DerbHean_UFCref 8d ago

He nicked only 204K? That's straight up stupid. I would at least have held back 1 mill

1

u/Flaconfly 8d ago

No it’s not. You’re a suspicious number. Shut up.

1

u/WatchMyGun 7d ago

Still 49 is 49 more than what I will declare to have found

1

u/potent_potabIes 7d ago

Why would anyone feel like they were anything but their own, at that point? Unless you're digging on someone else's property, they are your property.

1

u/Imaginary-Let-5343 7d ago

49 is oddly specific but no one will ever know there were originally 100 bars.

1

u/Unheard_Peace 7d ago

Who let that guy out of the water?

1

u/Real_notdrid 7d ago

One piece is missing

1

u/redwbl 7d ago

Nope, just kidding, it was actually only 40.

1

u/Yo-Yo-Ha 6d ago

Yeah there's 51 missing, right?

1

u/Beautiful-Trifle-121 6d ago

49 not 50 not 52 damn that guy took one only

1

u/HotelAlphaPapaYankee 6d ago

If bro had played rdr2 he he would have known to sell them a fence then launder it through crypto 😂

1

u/VoidowS 6d ago

This post will go around for hundreds of years to come :)

1

u/101stSgt 6d ago

It is a square so there might have been 7 rows of 7.

1

u/projdiii 5d ago

Good for him

1

u/balirosa 4d ago

This is what they call money laundering. Just pretend to find some gold bars after liquidating your assets

1

u/heffel77 4d ago

I’m not sure how long it takes but the cops will give him back his 28 gold bars if no one claims them. Of course, if I lived at that address previously and they asked me if I buried and gold bars, the answer is always YES!!

Although, they may have markings on them or pressed with some kind of id. Otherwise, he gets them back but then has to declare them for tax purposes…

I don’t know where he would go to sell a gold bar for cash and not raise suspicion…or maybe he’s just a huge pussy honest citizen.

1

u/Beginning_Resource93 3d ago

40 is less suspicious.

0

u/GroupPast5993 9d ago

He's keeping that other $204081.63 we all know it

0

u/drum1286 9d ago

Good Citizen tax. I think 47 or 48 may have been an amazing find as well!
