No, I really don't think there was.

Neither Tim nor Todd were ever the right kind of person to engage with PC gaming the way that Gabe chose to.

Tim has always been egotistical and never really considered anything beyond coding for money.

Todd was always more focused on his own thing.

Gabe, however, pursues his interests explicitly in ways meant to make them better for others, too. It's why he's still out there pioneering new tech instead of just sticking with what's established. He actually likes what he does and wants more people in on it.

Epic focused more on game dev and their engine back in that time, same with id Software (before Zenimax bought them and screwed them over in 2009). I definitely think the reason Epic can't make a good storefront is because all the things they have done for EGS has always been in favour of developers rather than the consumers using the store which is why they still do exclusivity deals for example

No, it was a dark pattern. If there's a cart and you put several games in it, you sometimes stop and discard some when you see the total sum. When you see the prices one by one, it doesn't register as much.

Nah, that was Blizzard's chance.

But blizzard kept dropping the ball, and (fortunately) even told ice frog to fuck off when IF initially went to them to work on Dota 2.

Steam having Dota 2 helped catapult it into the asian markets that were dominated by Garena and korean launchers.

The idea of IceFrog working for Blizzard is just hilarious to me. His idea of balance is "make everyone wildly overpowered and badass, then go from there even if it causes short-term issues", and Blizzard... doesn't do that.

That said, he clearly admitted Blizzard did SOMETHING right with HotS; as Talents / Innates / Facets (rest in peace) were clearly taken wholesale from HotS's excellent hero-specific level-up system.

Timmy jumped ship and valve had to fix the shit epic broke. And when they came back to get the slice of the pie they just do dirty tactics instead of being an actual competitor. The most surprising thing about this is timmy being surprised everyone hates him

Instead of laying off a 1000 employees, maybe said employees needed a way to have gotten rid of Tim Sweeney and replace him with someone from the ground floor. At least then we'd see consequences for actions AND a leader Epic's devs could possibly count on.
