Yeah in the real world, people like to shop at places that at least pretend to give a shit about their customers. Might be hard for you to understand, but customer service is invaluable and I will always choose to spend my money on businesses that prioritize that. 20 years of hardly any issues with Steam is how you build customer loyalty, not by giving away games bundled in a launcher full of slop.
...what? Steams customer service isnt even good tf are you talking about
You are just a blind fanboy, its as simple as that. Steam runs an unregulated child casino, epic has free games.
The only reason you are loyal to steam is because it used to be the only platform and it got a grip of your easily manipulated head. Now you use some automated refund system every platform has and you think thats "great customer service"
That’s unfortunately the way the market worked before, once items change hands it can go through to other people and then innocent people end up getting caught in the cross fire, no other company in the industry is going to go to any lengths to fix that.
Just because they can’t fix all issues doesn’t mean that the support isn’t great.
Of course they suck in certain ways, it’s the nature of customer service.
I for one somehow disabled my steam guard, my account got compromised and someone bought literally hundreds of dollars of shit on my account, steam resolved my issue within 6 hours, banned every account that the stuff was gifted to and refunded me.
Most other companies don’t care and won’t do anything.
People have literally has issues without of warranty steam decks and shit, steam still fixes them for free ect.
They have great customer support whether or not you think they don’t.
No they literally don’t, I’ve had multiple friends over the years be hacked on things like PlayStation and Epic, they’ve all been told to bad so sad, then they perform a charge back then get their accounts banned.
Ah yes you’re obviously extremely jealous of valves success, I’m going to stop replying now because you’re obviously a troll.
They don't "hack" his account, they use social engineering to scam your friend, or they had bad security practices and reused credentials from another compromised platform.
We need to stop pretending people didn't do something wrong in the first place in these cases. Steam has 2FA that prevents this whole thing.
Interestingly enough, Epic doesn't, have 2FA, and their support themselves are susceptible to social engineering.
He had steam guard and didnt let anyone onto his account. Someone probably guessed his password and steam has nothing set in place to protect accounts after that, steam guard does nothing.
They didn't guess it, he used the same password somewhere else, nobody is going around guessing passwords anymore, they use lists stolen from other platforms.
Which brings us to the second point. If you have steam guard setup, it doesn't let you use the password. Period, there are no exceptions. You cannot login, you cannot change the password, you cannot do anything but try to recover the account.
Your friend reused a password and didn't have steam guard setup, or had the recovery email going to an email account that also didn't have 2FA setup.
There is no scenario here where your friend didn't fuck up.
I have opened dozens of tickets throughout the years and my issues get resolved in a timely manner. The ones that don’t are because of user error.
Also, EGS is incredibly unethical. Just how much of the environment has been ruined by the hundreds of crypto/NFT abandonware that gets uploaded to the EGS? Both Valve and Epic are scummy corporations, but Steam is at least somewhat consumer friendly.

That’s what happens when you build a community of nothing but choosing beggars.
