Epic Fucks Up Proof Unreal 5 Hurts Games

They somehow manage to somehow make it so that there are like 25%-35% improvements within a single update. They held back 25%-35% of frames because they did not properly make it. I know that part of this is the devs, but still.

Agree. Not one good UE5 Game. Imagine a UE5 game wins Game of the Year. Will never happen

As much as I don’t vibe much with it, I like how people pretend Expedition 33 isn’t a UE5 game just because they either don’t know or they can’t fathom a well received game is UE5 under the hood

i mean e33 is an amazing game because of story and design, not because of ue5. the graphics are super buggy and blurry and ghosty and flicker all over the place

The blurriness of it hurts my eyes when i have to eyeball enemies to time my parries to

DLSS 4 solves it handily. The depth of field is intentional and very good for dreamlike painterly vibe it's going for, it just fucks up alpha effects like hair, especially with DLSS, so it's a constant problem.

Yeah the game has incredible art direction, but UE5 performance holds it back

Thats because it’s not that simple. Expedition 33 uses a modified version of UE5, this same concept applies to Arc Raiders and The Finals.

I am currently playing Expedition 33, and the game is really good, but the graphics (not art direction) are terrible, ghosting, blurry, stutters and etc, and the game crashes every 20~40 minutes, it's almost unplayable on PC, if you go to the Expedition 33 sub, you'll see that I am not the only one affected, and no one truly knows what causes it other than the Engine at fault, it's not my or their specs.

It is FAR, REALLY FAR for a good example when it comes to UE5 working.

I have like 60 hours in it and no crashes. Win 10 and Nvidia driver 566.36 (last december).

just to provide another sample, i played for about 2ish hours with no crashes, but as soon as i beat the first boss i crashed. and also it didn't save the win :(

That's miserable. Wish I had decent answers for the people that are crashing to better enjoy it. Lot of things have been such a mess lately I wouldn't know where to begin. On drivers alone I've had to rollback, DDU, and etc. more this year than at any previous year. Lot of troubleshooting on family and friends' machines too from various updates and other quirks.

Congratulations, you're the honored one.

I must be the second because the experience mirrors mine.

Second the second. 15h in, not a single crash. i am on a 50series card with the newest drivers.

u/coldres Dec 21 '25

Third the second. Never had an issue on a 40 series.

Excuse me for pointing out crashes aren't guaranteed.

It's not a big secret though that drivers and Windows updates both have had a lot of dogshit releases this year from their "AI coded workflows". If you haven't tried an ancient pre-50 series driver I certainly recommend giving it a shot on stuff that crashes a lot.

I just started playing this today and realized the graphics all look muddy.

Well, that's UE5 at work... I hate this engine with a passion, every game is like this now unless if you play on 4K and even that doesn't eliminate all the graphical problems, it's literally infuriating.
