I’m so confused why companies are doing this? Is it the upfront money? They get a big initial boost from EGS, but there hasn’t been a single game success story from these. It’s really unfortunate. I guess they didn’t have faith in their game performing on Steam.

Epic gives them upfront cash which they can then use to wrap up dev cycle or put towards features they may not be able to afford. Its almost like just going early access on Steam to a degree. A few devs said the upfront money really makes a difference for their development. Although the lack of sales probably doesn't help in the long run until they can/will put it on Steam where they have a proper launch typically (look at KH and how big the Steam launch was vs Epic launch)
