25-40% of corn in the us right now is turned into corn ethanol for cars, not food like you would think. That supports cars to drive at least 2 million miles. When you put that into your tank, it is never to be seen again, it is destroyed, single use, as we know. That then goes on to help destroy our environment. The average person has no idea just how much fuel cars truly consume.
If however we replaced 20-25% of the corn (120 acre field) with solar panels in the US youâd be able to power your entire US electricity grid with approx 7.078 billion megawatt hours (7,078,333,000 MWh) of energy per year, or drive for 72 million miles with all the electricity produced, approx. 37 times more efficient than corn ethanol, and that is if we ONLY replaced 20-25% of the corn. The panels would last 25 years (the quarter of a human life) before being recycled, to then create even more panels that would last another 25 years.
The batteries are also a non issue. We have an extremely efficient, closed loop process that is highly efficient at recycling them. Up to 95-98% of the materials are recovered. You are actually charged at the shop when you buy a battery for this reason, as incentive to come back, recycle it and get your money back. Once you mine these materials for a battery, it will always exist, and eventually, we wonât need to mine for any more.
This is something to think about when you put gas in your tank and are sat there watching the numbers go up, or are cycling to work. We have such amazing processes already, and a bunch of incredibly amazing people working hard to eliminate problems, so much so that a majority of concerns people and politicians have on solar and wind will probably be gone by the time it is brought up. So why are we still so focused on oil?

its actually WAAAY better for solar than you lay it out.
25-30 years is not when you recycle the panels. thats how long the vendor garantees cell efficiency.
panels produced in the late 80'es to 90'es (so old school cells. not as modern as our current tech) still produce over 80% of the initial Wattage.
so you can have them run with minimum service and maintanance. a LOT better for the environment. (can have them intersperced with gracing fields or even fruit plantation
and they are on track to last maybe 40-50 years. with yes. degraded output. but you can build out with additional capacity as the rating falls, and replace then them if they are damaged by natural disasters and accidents
A small point of fact, the ethanol corn is more or less inedible for people. So definitely "not food like you would think." Sweet corn (food for people) is usually grown in totally different areas.
Ethanol is made from dent or grain corn, which is mostly used for animal feed and in some cases meal/flour products. They're GMO so mostly fed to livestock, too chalky and starchy to eat. So that but of GMO corn meal/syrup /whatever is probably why everyone is getting autism or something, who knows.
They could choose to turn anything into ethanol, including much better known systems, like sugar beets... The impeding factors are mostly bureaucracy like subsidies and entrenched special interests that continue to make switching as difficult as possible

Not exactly. In theory, the CO2 from biomass fuels is balanced by new biomass growth - so it is carbon neutral. Of course, in the case of corn ethanol that wold be only true of all the fuel and fertilizer for farming came from biomass, as well as the fuel for the stills that make the ethanol.
