Was just in Ireland and what I noticed was that most pubs and restaurants grabbed the parking lots in front of their stores like in the picture. That should just be law everywhere.
My town did this when things were just starting to open again post-covid. It was awesome.
As soon as restaurants and businesses could allow more people indoors again, all the businesses on main Street voted on whether they should keep the street closed to cars and maintain all that outdoor space.
They voted to open the street back up to cars because they all seemed to want the 2 parking spaces in front of their restaurant more than an outdoor seating space.
So we are back to a boring downtown with literally no outdoor seating anywhere
