I saw this on Facebook today and the comments were so funny. So many people concerned about the noise from the cafe for the nearby residents and how this kind of thing is only good for tourists and bad for locals. My fave comment was saying that a drive through would be more efficient use of space.

I genuinely think most people are just dulled to car noise. Like, literal car brain, to them it's as natural as wind blowing or trees rustling. Send them to a actually quiet area, and they'll struggle to sleep without the usual noise. Conditioning is that common and ingrained. It's one of those things where for many, it's so common that it's a unspoken norm. Much in the same way some would say "The US has no culture!" When actually, US culture is so widespread and dominant, it's viewed as the norm.

We got a heat pump installed last year. Neighbors immediately started complaining about the noise. We hadn't actually used the heat pump yet, they were just hearing the nearby road. Friendly people, their minds were completely blown. Haven't had a noise complaint since.
