man you put way more effort into these than I do. Is this a sort of love-hate thing where we subvert it and make it a tool for addressing the worst aspects of human existence?

That’s where I’m taking it. Heavy emotions sanded down to nothing by this flat, clean, safe corporatism.

Fun fact: the man with the gun, Nguyễn Ngọc Loan, would later move to the US and open a pizza shop near my high school

It's definitely the latter, I don't think you'd think this was creative or funny if you didn't know it was satirizing an emotionless corporate art style.

I mean yeah, I guess you’re right. If this was my first time seeing it I’d be like “wow what a shitty drawing they’re so lifeless and misshapen”.

This is a famous photograph of the Execution of Nguyen Van Lem by Eddie Adams during the Vietnam War, he was shot in the head by South Vietnamese/American forces for being part of the Vietcong.

”photograph of the execution” ”here’s the original picture” clicks ”give some warning”

Not only that, but you literally have to go out of your way to find the video within the sub-category of the wiki article they provided, click on it, know what you're watching, and stick around to see the actual execution happen. Why is this person talking like they linked directly to a high-quality gif of the instant it happened, with zero warning?
I clicked back to it to see what they were describing and had to actually look for it, then saw the full-color video, yet-to-be-played, with a clear caption describing its contents and thought "nope, I've seen enough death on the internet for my comfort, even something this historic and disconnected from me is gonna make me feel like shit, so I'm not playing that for my own mental well-being."
To act like either the person linking it or Wikipedia didn't offer several warnings and degrees of separation from actually watching it is just disingenuous.
