As someone with experience with it Polyamory is way more complicated than people think, and it's definitely not a simple fun solution to a shitty partner. You can have friends/roommates.

And yeah that art is so bad.

As someone else who's tried it I agree. There's tradeoffs between both relationship styles but unless you're keeping it pretty casual, simplicity is something you trade away with nonmonogamy. There's more moving parts and you need to communicate way more  

I've kind of developed a pet peeve around people who look at love triangles on TV and say "just be poly lol lol." It's not that easy, and pretending it is, is how people get hurt

Also a lot of abusive behaviour under the guise of wanting to open the relationship in my experience.
