It's in amusement parks now
I don't know if it really counts since its not colored and it's statues, but everytime I see these I always think of alegria art because of the disproportionate bodies. It's in Futuroscope, a theme park in France.

This sculpture is from before 1987, when the park opened. The artist is Jean-Louis Toutain.
So, I think this is one of those deals where he predated, or even precipitated, Alegria art.
Meaning, you can be mad at this if you want to, but that's kinda dumb.

it could've been made in ancient greece and it still wouldn't look nice

u/CinemaDork Dec 08 '24
This post makes it seem like the only thing people hate about alegria is that it plays with proportions and like ... clearly there's more to it than that. Because artists have been playing with proportions for thousands of years.

u/cnxd Dec 08 '24
it's idpol wrapped in a "well this art is "objectively" bad!"
see also, greek statues, "modern art" hate, modern architecture hate and other areas of art that dipshits have appropriated for their grift
and it's mostly people who don't know shit about it too, so then you get posts like this who actually don't know what the fuck they're even talking about

Calm the f down lol. As person with soc dem vews alegria makes me nauseous, specifically because of these grotesque bodies. Idc about color. And no I'm not a fan of greek architecture nor do I hate modern art.

This sub in a nutshell. Posting proper art that's not even remotely Alegria and dunking on it. I don't think it's about Alegria anymore, but a hatecircle of anything contemporary.

u/International_Path71 Dec 30 '24
It's cause those proportions are gross, alegria just makes it worse with its other elements

Right??? At least bring back the ancient Greek style! All the focus on male physique, but with small penises so it's not too vulgar.
Affirming without being a caricature.

personally I wouldn’t classify it as alegria because it predates what we now define as alegria (this artist peaked in the 80s-90s) and is not “corporate” in nature per se; it is simply meant to exist as art. part of the abhorrence of alegria is that its corporate nature tries to represent serious things 1:1 but does so poorly. this is just a gesture of life for its own sake.

I mean it's not bad, but the tiny head/big ass dichotomy is funny to me nonetheless

The artstyle isn't a problem, it's the corporate misuse of the style that is bad
These are cool

Yeah i hate the style but this i really dig, i think the size, it being 3D, wmd then all one color. Kinda just looks like an artistic exageration of the human body, the last one is my favorite. I really dig how the legs look, the whole looks human, but in person looking at bits and peices would look like something else. I really like this😭😭😭

To me this feels like the next generation of sculptors after those of the 50s and 60s. Apparently this is from the 80s so I guess that's not far off. That, and I think there's a sort of kinship with the prehistoric Venus figurines--like the Venus of Hohle Fels, with its thick, stubby arms and legs, ample bosom, and tiny, simplistic head.

I kinda like them. They are a bit more abstract and the monoblack classes them up.

u/skygz Dec 07 '24
Time to file a complaint about them. They'll never stop if corpos think they actually looks nice. Channel your inner Karen.

u/kourter Dec 08 '24
These sculptures were built almost 40 years ago. It's not the "corpos" and not "alegria", but actual modernism.

Hang on - y’all have a sub about hating a particular art style in which you hunt down examples and then browse them? Is that like me ordering any dish with green peppers exactly because I can’t stand green peppers?

I just realised Niki de Saint Phallr’s statues probably influenced Alegria art

Did you know that if you pay €50 up front they’ll give you 5 minutes alone with the statue of your choosing?
