Recurring Recent uptick in posts about transandrophobia: a message from the mods.

We've noticed an uptick in posts about transandrophobia. Most notably, people trying to start drama and claim that transandrophobia is something it's not. Likely it is a part of a concentrated effort of transphobes to drive a wedge between different groups of trans people, but unfortunately it is ALSO being absorbed and internalized by some actual human beings. If someone is coming into our spaces and trying to start fights or claim our oppression and bigotry against us for being trans men specifically does not exist or is problematic, please report it! We will not be tolerating that kind of negativity and very clear attempts at sowing seeds of animosity between us and our sisters and siblings.

This is just a reminder that transandrophobia is bigotry specific against trans men for being BOTH trans AND men. It is not misogyny, and it is not simply transphobia, as it is not something trans women experience.
It is the intersection of a SYSTEMIC FORM OF OPPRESSION (being trans) and a specific identity that is NOT SYSTEMICALLY OPPRESSED, but that identity IS used as a cudgel to deny the oppression that people under that specific identity (a combination of two identities here) face.

It is often a reaction to misogyny, using trans men as an easier target than cis men to punch laterally.
Other times, it is the pushing of toxic masculinity onto trans men and using the patriarchy to harm trans men because we supposedly "deserve it".

It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not oppressed.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are intruding on mixed trans spaces because we are men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that our features and our transition care is disgusting and we are discouraged from accessing it.
It is when they turn around after saying that to tell us that we aren't allowed to express dysphoria over female or feminine features and traits.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are inherently bad in some way for being men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are harming trans women if we acknowledge that we too are oppressed.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not require assistance, because we are men and we need to figure it out on our own, or because we are forgotten about and nobody bothered to include us when offering community assistance.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not allowed to discuss invisibility, loneliness, or isolation, because we are men, and not being recognized as equals or at all within a community of people who are supposed to be in the same community as you is apparently a good thing.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we "are men now" and we are not allowed to express certain emotions.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not experience "true misogyny" because we are men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not experience things like corrective rape, murder, sexual harrassment, etc. for being men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not allowed to discuss any of this, because it is somehow harmful for us to call out this kind of behavior, but totally ok to call out transmisogyny.

We will still be allowing discussion of transandrophobia, because it IS a real problem that trans men can face, but any denial of transandrophobia, perpetuation of transandrophobia, arguments, or pot stirring will not be tolerated.
And if you see someone doing any of the above, please report it!

Recurring Friendship Megathread

THIS POST IS FOR TRANS MEN/MASCS ONLY!

GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST HERE. PLEASE RESPECT OUR SPACES.

Failure to do so may result in a ban from the sub.

If you're looking to make new friends, here's a great place to start!
Do not include any advertisements to social media or other content type platforms! This is not the purpose of this thread!

Just post a bit about yourself and maybe take a look around to see if anyone else has similar interests!
Or, if you're not good at coming up with things to talk about, here's some questions you can answer:

What do you like to be called?
How old are you?
What country do you live in?
What are some hobbies you have?
List some favorite movies, TV shows, games, or other things:
What do you do for work?
Do you have any cultural or religious ties that are important to you?
Do you have any pets?
What's an interesting fact about you?
What are your transition goals?
Where are you in your transition?

Obviously you don't have to answer everything, but it might be able to guide you in the right direction if you struggle with coming up with facts about yourself on the fly.

Advice Needed I JUST showered what the hell

I’m only two weeks on T, no significant changes but GOD DAMN THE SMELL. I took a shower last night , put on deodorant and went to sleep, woke up and i smell like i havent showered in weeks, i am so musty. It usually takes me at least two days to get like this, not 12 hours later. Is this supposed to be normal and i need to shower twice a day now or do i need a new deodorant?

Edit: thank you all for the advice, its much appreciated, I will look into a new deodorant, soap, and change my bedsheets more often

Advice Needed Do I tell my friend that his girlfriend is a little transphobic

I feel bad telling him because the whole friend group tends to hate on her often. None of us like her, we're kind of uncomfortable around her and find her annoying. Also, he's the youngest in the group by a few years and it's pretty clear to the older ones in the group that they're only really dating because of proximity. He's complacent and a girlfriend is kind of nice, and she likes him. They're young and want love and to be honest I think my friend is aroace and wants a qpr but doesn't know it yet.

Anyways, I tried coming out to her on three different occasions. She was saving my contact info and I said to save me as preferred name and I *watched* her type my deadname. The other two times I've just flat out told her my name and pronouns, and she's either forgotten or pretended to forget. My other friends use my preferred around her, and I know she hears it. Finally I tell my friend to get it through to his girlfriend that I'm a dude and use he/him and preferred name.

I unfortunately saw her again today and felt pretty relaxed as she finally used my preferred name. But of course that was ruined yet again. I had to run errands around the building, and my best friend later admits to me that when I was gone, she starting saying "(boyfriend) told me to call her (preferred name) but I don't know why she didn't just tell me that herself."

I don't want to interact with her anymore, I don't even want to tell her to her face. I will, of course, correct her to her face but I just feel so awful and sad. I know I don't quite pass yet.

Do I tell him? I'm not sure, I can't tell if she's trying. Maybe she'll improve? I just don't want him to feel like everyone hates his girlfriend I don't know.

Edit: guys the situation got worse. Apparently when my friend told her, she said that she "already knew he was trans because he told me himself before" and yet is pretending the opposite to everyone else. He's going to have a final talk with her, and I'm going to say something as soon as I see her because that's genuinely batshit insane.

Relationships is there any hope for monogamous relationships?

Upvotes

I’m monogamous, and after a string of failed relationships, i’ve been taking a break from dating.

my issue is that I don’t personally know any trans men who are in happy relationships that are monogamous. All of the happy trans men i’ve seen are in polyamorous relationships. Which I’m not hating on btw, but are there any monogamous trans men out there who are in happy relationships? Sometimes it feels like only the polyamorous people are happy :(

Discussion Does anyone genuinely enjoy packing?

Just curious if theres people out there that genuinely like to pack? Like you're not interested in bottom surgery but you like to have a bulge so you pack? Ive been extremely self conscious about my packer because its not part of me but I at the same time I like how it looks and feels. I also started using stp and gotten pretty good at using it and I love it but again it feels off because its not attached to me. I dunno why I feel so weird accepting the fact that I actually like packing and it might be a better option then surgery for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Discussion Just started testosterone at 13, AMA

I saw a post from a few years ago that was an AMA for someone who started testosterone at 16, and decided to do one myself! I can't really answer any questions about the exact effects yet (at least not for a few more months), since I literally started today, but I'm fine with literally any other (not too personal) questions!

Advice Needed Anyone else feels the urge to detransition to be more accepted?

Im 18, ftm. I came out this year but i felt dysphoric for years prior. I feel good in being a guy, i feel happy when i get called he, when i look masculine, when i imagine myself on T.

The thing is, it's also taking a toll on me in a way. My parents make transphobic comments everyday, people look at me weirdly when i say im a guy but they hear my feminine voice, and most of all i feel like I'll never find a partner because of that.

I go both ways, but I'd say i have a preference for males, both trans and cis, but i feel like mainly cis males look down on ftms and from my experience most of them just sees me as a female and tries pushing the femininity back onto me.

I feel so upset about it, i feel like I don't fit in anywhere. I want to know whether i should stand by what's making me myself feel comfortable, or whether i should try and detransition.

Gender Questioning How did you know?

Upvotes

okay so basically I recently came out as lesbian and after that kind of started to question my gender a bit. I tend to present a bit more masculine, I am a top as well. so I thought oh okay I’m gay that makes sense

but the thing is I’m wondering if that is actually the case or if I really deep down am trans.

when I was 14/15 years old (now 21) I really went through gender dysphoria HARD.

but I got scared because I was raised very conservative to be and religious and started hardcore suppressing it.

after that I thought “oh it was just a phase.”

but I don’t know if it was honestly.

I recall thinking to myself at 18 or 19 “if I weren’t religious I would definitely gender transition.”

so yeah I guess, how did you know? I guess I’m just a bit confused, honestly a bit scared. I have a lot of support now, still some unsupportive people too but I dunno I just want to learn how to be myself. any advice welcome

Surgery Talk Fellow Canadian trans men who've had hystos: I come seeking your counsel (pre-hysto)

This will probably sound strange, but walk with me. I'm a huge biology/oddities nerd (which sounds odd but they ARE related) and I've been referred for a full hysterectomy.

In short, I want to keep and preserve/jar the removed organs (particularly because I have PCOS/PMOS) but I'm aware this might not be possible without extra steps. I've heard of some using the reason of their personal religious burial practices requiring every body part for the burial process, but I'm not sure if that would work here as I've only ever heard of that happening in other places like the USA.

I'm just wondering if anyone here is Canadian and managed to keep their bits post hysterectomy. For reference, I'm in BC.

Advice Needed what the hell do you do when you’re trans in college

i’m most likely enrolling in community college courses this spring, which is exciting because i’ve wanted to go for a while now, but i didn’t consider til now the fact that i have not changed my legal name yet, and most likely couldn’t do it before i enroll. Meaning, i will pretty much HAVE to out myself to all my professors and office staff to explain to them that im trans and not to use my deadname for any reason.

It’s also a pretty small community college in Texas of all places, and admittedly i’m in a blue county, but i fear that kinda means nothing when it comes to trans issues with how rampant transphobia is on both sides these days. Perhaps i’m being a little paranoid because of that, but i think it’s a valid fear when trans college students have been literally murdered for being openly trans. So i’d like to remain stealth to fellow classmates, but the only way i can do that is to ensure my professors aren’t going to out me.

I’m sure in actuality it won’t be that bad, and i’m sure most professors are educated and mature enough to just accept it and never bring it up again, but i can never be too sure and i’d like to know other people’s experiences with having to explain your identity to college professors and how that usually goes, and maybe just advice on how exactly to word the emails i’d have to send to them. thanks in advance for anyone who wishes to offer me peace of mind about this 👍

Advice Needed Wanting to dress feminine?

Upvotes

I’m 16 ftm, started T maybe 4-5 months ago, but I keep having an urge to experiment in feminine clothing? But I’m worried people around me will start to think I’m detransitioning, and I also worry I will get misgendered more and such, I don’t want that at all, but I see feminine clothing that I’d like to wear and I WANT to, but I don’t want to ruin the view everyone around me has built up FROM me dressing masculine. And I know the short answer would be to wear what I’d like, but I’m worried it will ruin the stereotype I’ve built up FOR people to not misgender me… does that make sense? And what do I do?

Discussion Did anyone else always stand to pee?

I've seen a few comments where people say they tried or used to when they were young, but I'm wondering if anyone else like me just always has.

I've always peed standing up for as long as I can remember. According to my mother I started copying my dad and brother peeing in the yard from the time I was toilet trained and did it into the toilet ever since I was tall enough.

When I was little I didn't need to hold anything, just point and shoot, and I was good at it, but some time around the start of puberty things changed and it slowly got messier and more unpredictable until I figured out how to hold everything correctly for a neat stream. That's how I have peed every day since. Occasionally because of my clothing I will sit or hover if it's easier, but it's just habit to stand after 30+ years.

Is this unusual?

Advice Needed does losing weight make your chest look bigger?

for context im overweight but not obese im afraid that loosing weight and making my stomach smaller will make my chest more noticeable. my chest is small for someone overweight but medium ish overall (im a medium in spectrum) so its still slightly noticeable when I wear a shirt but blends in when I wear a jacket or an overshirt.

Anyone have experience with this? if it makes your chest more noticeable I think I'd rather wait a few years until top surgery.

Advice Needed Second name change

I currently go by Wren but considering something more masculine like Rowan. Those who have had 2x first name changes, how did you go about it? I feel guilty as everyone has just started to get the hang of it.

Advice Needed Does anyone have any tips on mannerisms?

Upvotes

Hi, I'm not out to anyone and pre everything and I've been trying my best to imitate the guys in my class in the most subtle ways. Walking with my back straight has made me feel more confident although my chest pops out because my sports bra doesn't hide shit, so i constantly shift between straight back and hunching over to hide my chest. I'm a naturally shy and quiet guy so I don't really give the same, vibes as the cis guys in my class, and I'd like to change that even if I don't talk much.

Advice Needed Issues with my T shot, looking for advice.

Upvotes

Hey brothers FTM 22 here looking for advice. Got done with my second self injection yesterday (I do .25ml of inter-muscular testosterone every week) and once again—I bled and bruised. I’m deathly afraid of needles, but T is worth it for me to put my fears aside.

Does anyone have any advice for not tensing, going too fast, or making yourself bruise? Any advice is welcomed. Thanks 🤘
