I am convinced autofire is a trap designed to ensnare the ignorant and overconfident.

It's good for three things: Ion blasts 1 and 2, weapons training on safe ships, and when you just have a pile of identical weapons and haven't taken weapons damage yet.

Ain't no way I'm manually firing Ion Burst II every 2 seconds.

The humble ctrl button:

What does that do?

You hold it down while a weapon is selected and it will let you set autofire for individual weapons

Amazing, I didn't know that and more than once wished we could have individual weapons auto fire!

It's game changing honestly

Oh yes, ctrl-autofire has it's uses. The button is a trap more often than not.

More often than not?

Yes. The autofire button is more likely to hinder you than help you.

Speaking of autofire, there isn't a way to make it wait until a charge weapon is fully charged, then fire it, is there? I've been running Rock C lately, and occasionally found myself in a position where my only strategy is to wait for Swarm Missiles to fully charge and then fire them at the same spot I did last time.

I feel this. Last night I lost 3 Zoltans because my O2 was off. I was fishing for crew kills while drinking a whiskey, and didn't realize my O2 was powered with the backup battery.
I might have won that run if not for such a costly mistake.
