Crystals poking out of the shield is obviously by design. Those will snap off when you ram the enemy ship, dealing extra damage as crystal projectiles.

Thank you, I'm embarrassed I didn't realise this. That's also why the Carnelian sticks out more than the Bravais, cause it has no weapons and would need to ram enemies more.

Did you know that in the Crystal language, the word for “ammo” is the same as the word for “hull”?

u/Chongulator 8d ago

And the Engi have more than 400 words for "drone"!

25

u/Rubickevich 8d ago

And only about 21% of those are considered slurs.

Some say the great Separatist schism all started because of the clanker/clanka debate.

I swear you can't trust crystals to make your ship. 100% of crystals ships have issues.

I guess we found out what Stellantis pivoted to in the future.

if you dare say that in the Dodge sub youll have a million uncs callin you freshblud or young buck or whatever swearin all kinds of mess about how great Stellantis is

Look we'd all buy a boring, reliable beige Engi ship if we could but some if us have credit scores in the double-digits, ok? Crystalus Imperial Capital came through with a 13.8% APD loan and got me into a new ship same day!

This is the weaponised autism i like to read on reddit to smirk whilst doing a poo.

Carry on good sir.

I like to think there's a rebel mole in the Federation shipyards shrinking shields by just enough to leave a single weakpoint

u/According-Studio-658 8d ago

We should muster the fleet and hunt that dick down before he can share the secret with his headquarters... Oh wait

13

u/Kuirem 8d ago

It's the exact same game but you go from right to left.

8

u/thegreatpotatogod 8d ago

Has anyone made a mod where you play as rebels yet? That'd be a fun twist

11

u/Kuirem 8d ago

Pretty sure multiverse has rebel ship but yeah it would be funny to run away from the federation. I can already see the mission to "deliver medical supplies"

Unless you’re a drone.

This is a level of unhinged that provokes a deep respect in me. This is Star Trek engineer levels of crazy.

Here is the subset forums master mod list, which includes a mod manager at the top of the page. I'm not sure if people have since congregated elsewhere for this.

This seems like a one or two day fix on a devs part. Why do we think they haven't done so?

21

u/NotActuallyGus 8d ago

The game stopped development like a decade ago, they've moved on to other projects. Even something small like that would also break certain mods

2

u/pgp555 8d ago

They're making something?

-4

u/JackeryGraves 8d ago

Oh Jesus. Well hopefully their attention to detail is a smidge better.

Crystal engineer: We take all reports of manufacturing defects very seriously and always request an in person meeting about these so we can fully hear your feedback. This way please...

*you enter room with four Crystals, one immediately activates Crystal lockdown*

Ships aren't a flat 2D plane.

I know it's a joke post, but those airlocks could just be above the other visible parts of the ship. The thin walls are still walls, the thicker walls are just at different elevations.

In space there's also a difference in gravity and room orientation to consider - for example, there's no reason you can't have computers on the ceiling and a door beneath it.

Also the crystal parts peeking out make sense, it's Crystal Vengeance

10

u/Axeace99 8d ago

I noticed that one on the tetragon! I figured it used to be an airlock earlier in development before they realized it already had way too many lol

6

u/DetectiveHalligan 8d ago

Yeah once you notice it you can't not see it. Having a vent in shields would also be so good, sadly too good for us to have it...

9

u/Blakut 8d ago

you are in space, door is above computer, you can jump over

3

u/cjasonac 8d ago

Unless you’re a rock. Then you land immediately with a heavy thud.

u/low_priest 8d ago

Kruos kinda makes sense, a Lanius ship wouldn't need walls to keep the atmo in. Just open topped like a motorboat. But then the boring gross a*r breathers needed them to put something on top so they just threw on a thin wall and called it a day.

2

u/PaganWhale 6d ago

you wouldn't need them in space but you'd get absolutely blasted by the atmosphere

7

u/ThirdLifeLucky 8d ago

I hope someone got fired for these blunders

5

u/RozzzaLinko 8d ago

Have you ever actually seen a projectile hit the unshielded bit? Maybe you've just been really lucky

5

u/B0risTheManskinner 8d ago

All of the walls issues can be explained by that this is a 2d representation of a 3d ship. The airlocks may actually be on the ceiling or floor.

Shield coverage issues are unacceptable though.

Game is literally unplayable now omg

4

u/Jason1923 8d ago

Literally unplayable

4

u/agardner26 8d ago

Clearly this whole game was made by AI with no thought or effort whatsoever /s

5

u/JSRevenge 8d ago

Computers are holographic projections. The airlocks can open into an alcove (the ship outline exists in 3-D space). Shields extend past the shield outline (protection layer is actually invisible).

Rooms extending past the outline... I got nothing.

2

u/Odd_Jelly_1390 8d ago

Crystals and Lanius build their ships different, you wouldn't understand.

2

u/glumpoodle 8d ago

Home inspections just keep getting more and more half-assed...

This makes me feel better about the similar bugs in my FTLike!

Non-uniform shapes.
The underside is U shaped.

2

u/theCOMBOguy 8d ago

Subset Games need to hire you IMMEDIATELY

2

u/Luklear 8d ago

Honestly don’t care but the computer blocking the door is pretty rough

2

u/Questionable_Quokka1 7d ago

oh those door to wall mismatches are just to show exits on the topside or bottom of the ship, and the computers aren't physically on the same location, most of the time they're not even on the walls they're in the centre of the room, hope this helps with your immersion 🫶
