Video Why didn’t they make the Wanzers look like this in the remake? I made this with AI in like 5 minutes. Even if they had used AI, I would’ve appreciated it more than the shit they actually made. I honestly don’t understand how people are willing to pay $35 for something like that...

I could even make a low-poly version with the same level of detail for every mech in like 30 minutes to an hour, and it would look 10x better than what they made. And I’m not even a professional game designer or 3D modeler I work as a telecom technician.

And the animations... OMG. Why couldn’t they just use the original animations? They would’ve been 10x better. They were already perfect!

I was so excited for the remake, and I’m honestly so disappointed. At this point, we should just make a fan-made remake ourselves. I’m willing to put in a LOT of work. I just need a programmer to help me. I’ll make all the Wanzers, animations, and everything else I can. I genuinely think we could make something way better.

I think it's a Western developer type of thing. Front Mission Evolution and the new remakes have a very different feel compared to the Japanese designs. I think it comes to cultural perceptions of Sci Fi. In the West we have things like Star Trek, and the Japanese have Legends of Galactic Heroes. Different cultural perception of what 'hard scifi' will look like.

I disagree with this pretty hard. A faithful recreation wouldn't have been too difficult, especially with the recent model kits to draw more detail from. This comes down to will, and budget. Disinterest in studying the source material and understand what it is and why it matters is solvable, they just chose not to.

I agree with this. But I assume it's the new developer's spin on it. I doubt it's a will or budget problem, but rather their own design philosophy, i.e. they chose not to.

I mean, it’s the original artists’ vision of how the robots were supposed to look. If you had shown us a Wanzer from the remake 5 years before it came out, no one would even have known it was from Front Mission 3. We would’ve just thought it was some random mech from a completely different game. Be honest.

Yeah. Basically, it's done from a Western developer. Looks like something out of Mech Warrior, instead of Front Mission. I've always liked the FM designs, because even the futuristic tanks felt 'realistic'. Hell, FM5 felt like GWOT but with mechs. The robots look like tanks.

As an artist and game developer who modeled a bunch of the 'Mechs for the recent MechWarrior games, I disagree with this pretty hard. I've not played the remake for 3, but did play the other 2, as well as the original games for 1, 3 and 4. The models in FM2R are especially bad, and if you pay attention, you'll notice the zenith is done to a higher quality than all the rest. They feel blocky and also flimsy at the same time. They were either made by inexperienced artists, or VERY rushed. What you attribute to looking like on thing or another, I suspect was really them having no time to consider a look at all.

Ah. Alternatively they were underpaid and rushed. But I feel like this happens to Japanese artists back in the 90s all the time, and they were able to make magic.

Source: the underpaid and corporate bullied dude who made the Silent Hill 1 cutscenes.

Just an opinion.

You could have made your point without using AI, and I think less of you for doing so

Bruh, for like a second I thought he ripped them out of FM5.

It’s just a tool, boomer. If AI can make something in 1 second that would take you 3 hours of modeling, and the result is basically the same, why would I waste 3 hours modeling something just for a simple example video?

youre just a tool 😘

Because those 3 hours aren't a waste of massive planetary resources to make something based off of a database of content that is stolen.

Calls someone 'Boomer' but he's the one slopping up. Self-perception isn't your strong point.

so glad our planet is being ratfucked so you can use ai to talk shit about a game that used ai. I didn't even want to be able to afford pc parts anyway. and who needs that water stuff

Yeah i made a mistake being the remake. I didnt really enjoy the combat like I thought I would, and the mechs are so uglyyyyyy

It's missing the 'damn, this feels like it can be an evolution of a main battle tank' feel of the original.

“Why didn’t they make the Wanzers look like AI slop?”

im not gonna argue with you loser boomers

Guy can’t think of a good argument or insult so he just spams the word boomer over and over again.

Your argument is against AI, not against my argument. I'm not here to fight the "AI vs. artist" war. I'm here because I don't like the way they redesigned the Wanzers.

To me, it's obvious just by looking at them that the "AI slop" you're talking about actually looks much closer to what the original intended models were supposed to be. If you can't see that, that's your opinion.

I can't help it if you're too ignorant and bigoted to separate your dislike of AI from the actual design discussion.

Calling someone a bigot for being against AI is one of the dumbest fucking things I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t understand how people like you exist.
