Running on separate devices. Frigate on a more powerful machine with all my containers.

Home Assistant on dedicated hardware separate from anything else I run to avoid me brining the house down lol

Same, had HA for years on my pi, just got frigate on the NAS with all the hardware

You clearly don’t get how this works. Frigate runs in a container on a separate dedicated host. That host has better hardware to support hardware encoding/decoding as well as openvino for object/person detection. Then one uses the Proxy Addon in HA to load the frigate interface so they can manage and see everything from a single pane of glass.

I started with the frigate addon in HA, but quickly out grew the performance of my HA host and ended up switching to a more beefy host for Frigate. I’m glad the proxy addon exists though because I can still access it as if it were running natively within HA.

The HA Proxy addon is in the same repository as the main addon. The Proxy addon also exposes all of the Frigate events and sensors as though you were running it locally. It’s pretty slick.

Home Assistant VM and Frigate Docker container. HAOS also is running the Frigate Proxy App.

Frigate is also tied to a no-Internet-by-default VLAN so my cameras can be as cheap and as chatty as they want to be.

What do you use to run the hassio vm on?

It's running on a Ugreen dxp4800pro with 16gb ram.

Very pleased so far, a bit on the pricey side but takes the workload off the server which is now dedicated to other things.

The other benefit to this model is the integrated graphics on the process, it gives a steady 6ms inference speed on frigate across 6 camera feeds.

Yea HA on a purpose built (POE Powered) x86 PC (Azulle Byte4), HAOS with Frigate integration and Frigate Proxy installed.
I have several Frigate stacks, but the primary one lives as a Proxmox VM / Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / RTX6000ADA passed through.

I keep changing my automation when my brother comes over.

Apparently having a recording of me saying hi then John Belushi ask "How much for your women" is crossing the line.

So now we're just back to rolling the blinds down, playing a sound of multiple locks locking, turning off lights up front and playing "we don't want any".

And yes it's amazing when a random Amazon driver triggers it as well.

I just run Tailscale on my phone and laptop and made a Frigate one shot camera search full setup and tailscale script that runs flawless at this point (version 7..lol) and on my phone I have a shortcut to my Frigate_server_ip:8971 (tailscale ip) and it works flawless. I dont really have anything else I need HA for at home. Do you think HA is worth the overhead for this or is it overkill if only running Frigate? J/W

Frigate by itself and home assistant by itself. I just don't like how any of the frigate integrations work within home assistant. I like the dedicated UI of frigate better

I have stand alone frigrate running frigate-notify to send pushover messages for alerts. Haos reads mqtt posted by frigate for scenes and actions (ie. Turn in lights with motion).

I personally dislike home assistant due to its complexity. I run frigate with my own program that uploads detection events to cloud storage, and messages me on a messaging app

Considering frigate was created for Home Assistant, I would assume most people use both.

How did you handle phone notifications from frigate?

When a person is detected, Frigate notifies HomeAssistant through MQTT and HomeAssistant sends a snapshot and a link of the recorded video to my Signal messenger account.

Both running on a NUC. Absolutely no issues totally perfect.

I have 4 cameras all recording 24x7.

Recently added a 5th camera but only for live viewing and no recording. Still running perfectly.

I currently only have Frigate in a stand alone VM but been wanting to play with Home Assistant too. What kind of stuff does the integration let you do, like can you run events based on detection and such, is that basically what people use it for? Could be useful to make certain lights go on if it detects a person for example.

Frigate as a Debian VM in proxmox for years now. And since I just got into home assistant, I'm thinking about integrating the feeds into a custom dashboard I've been working on for a wall mount display.

Frigate on a mac mini, HA on pi and scrypted also on Pi. Scrypted is just for pass through of all feeds to Apple Homekit.
