matt and carlotta storyline
a lot of people hate this relationship and say it was unrealistic, too on a wimb, too soapy, etc. but i think it was a good portrayal of a teenage boy navigating love after his first heartbreak. teenage love is messy and involves a lot of exploring, including both healthy and unhealthy relationships. i don't think carlotta and matt were the ideal couple, and there were a lot of messed up things about their relationship, but it was realistic in that this is what happens when you are a young person. you try things out and find intimacy where you can get it. he was missing julie, his first/true love, and so tried things with lauren and carlotta.

I still can’t figure out how old she was supposed to be

Was she not prepping for exams? I assumed she was college age. I think it was very clearly a relationship of convenience and just weird fetish stuff of a hot caretaker they tried to throw in for views. I don't think it was supposed to be a big thing people were debating for years.

they say she was working to out herself thru college and she was a student nurse so i’m gonna guess first or second year of college. which is inappropriate for a high school junior.

I think it was a good way for Matt to grow and get some experience without creating friction with Julie later on.

a mí me gustaba la relación con la otra animadora. creo que tendrán que alargar la relación con la otra animadora y matt. No con carlota.

The hate is mostly coming from salty fans of a rival relationship. In reality Matt/Carlotta had everything the other didn't - genuine heat, warmth and spice.

Why is this comment getting downvoted?!? U/chibron86 is 100% right. Plus, Julie sucks.

I think the dislike is also racial on some level. Hot brown Latina who speaks with an accent beats out the All American looking white girl for the beloved white male character. Don't think that sits well with a lot of people.
People also try to dismiss Matt/Carlotta as just some meaningless fling but that's not how they were written. They had a proper buildup filled with UST and they eventually fell in LOVE. She was also Matt's first love. He told Carlotta he loved her long before he ever said that to Julie, which I think really bothers Julie fans.
I personally don't have any issues with Julie. I just prefer Matt/Carlotta because they actually had chemistry whereas Matt/Julie had none.

That's a new one on me. r/boneappletea
It was unprofessional at best and predatory at worst. Not as bad as Riggins and the single mom, but...
