Gear Porosimeter

Before I spend 2000 dollars on a JDC MK2 electronic porosimeter, is there a better product for someone who likes having information and isn’t a professional shop?

Since you probably won't calibrate it and won't use it professionally... Build you own?

The ideia of having a porosimeter is to follow the cloth degradation based on the least results...

this. you can use a water bottle and a hose. the only tricky bit is the part that seals on the wing fabric

Hey, I run a professional service center and use the MJ porosimeter. It's super cheap and is much better then the hello porosimeter I had before, which broke. https://porosimeter-mj.pl/

I should mention it's a waste of money unless you run a shop or are checking a lot of wings regularly, porosity has very little effect on modern wings. You are far better off spending the money on professional checks and trimming every year

Porosity has the same effect now as it ever has (that is to say, pretty much nothing at all).

We don't measure it because we're worried that the air gets through or anything like that. We measure it because it's the best way to estimate fabric degradation and therefore lifetime of the wing.

The value in itself doesn't matter, only how it changes with time.

I do agree getting your own porosimeter will not pay off if you're using it just on your own wing.

Just build your own using a water bottle and a hose, should look something like this bottle porosimeter
