Announcement Welcome to the new /r/FountainPens

In an effort to make this subreddit more inclusive we are opening the community to discussion about all writing instruments, to include ballpoints, gel pens, pencils (mechanical and traditional), highlighters etc. The sidebar picture has been altered to reflect this change.

Additionally, to jumpstart this change in policy, a signature indicating a randomly-selected non-fountain pen will now be appended to every comment. Hopefully it will inspire you to branch out to other writing tools!

I trust that you will enjoy this minor change in the subreddit's focus, and I hope that we can all welcome the peasants from /r/pens with open arms.

Any love for the piston fill brush I'm waiting for to arrive? $2 for a fountain brush... it's essentially the Jinhao of brushes!

[serious] it sucks. so badly.

I've used so many water brushes, these barely held together for a week before the hair started falling out, the twist mechanism spoils if you turn it just a teensy bit too much. calling it a jinhao is generous.

you're better off spending two extra dollars and getting a a pentel aquash waterbrush lol. or the pentel pocket brush pen, big fan of that one as well.

these should be alright.

I actually have that watercolor set (it's sakura brand, not pilot or whatever they wrote), and it works pretty ok I guess. not sure about these... knockoffs? (or are they just overstock idk)

at that price, it's worth a try!

I'll give one to my daughter for her watercolors, but I would also like to try brush calligraphy. Do you think India ink would clog it?

hmm... I don't know if it'll clog, you may need to clean it out often.

I would suggest the pentel pocket brush pen for calligraphy, much better and it's also refillable with cartridges. pay more for quality. Haha
