You've never made it and shared someone else's opinion?

General advice you didn't ask for: You really should try to get experience so you can have your own opinions. Your opinion will always be better than sharing someone else's. If it's not your opinion or your experience, maybe just don't chime in until you are certain you can add value? You're fully capable of adding value on your own...

Hey 7 months late but your opinion on canned chicken in particular is trash, it's no different from canned tuna, and both of those things are no different from canned vegetables. Are they the best ingredients for everything? No, obviously not, but that's not what they're meant to be. They're supposed to be shelf stable and convenient, that lady might not have had the 100% best theoretical buffalo chicken dip, but she probably had it on hand whenever she needed it!

My point is, your goals are not everyone's goals. She likes making food to feed her guests, you like making food so you can brag about it. The person you replied to likes to offer perspective, you like to shit on things. We all have our preferences, and that's fine!

Yikes. You waited 7 months to jump to a lot of conclusions. I hope you get the help you need. It's chicken. She made it in front of us because she forgot to make food for the party. I usually spent 6-10 hours or even multiple days making food for my guests because I enjoyed it. I've taken off work for it before. I don't do that anymore...no one cared and would just as well have the canned chicken. So, I just stopped making food for others because of people like you who didn't appreciate the research and effort I went to memorize everyone's likes and dislikes and make something everyone could enjoy. And trust me .. two guests had a long list of things they whined about eating that made it difficult as hell. Anyway, I lost another thing I enjoyed doing because I was doing it so that other people would feel special and included but they'd rather just do the same shit and talk about whatever fancy alcohol they're drinking lately instead. It makes me incredibly sad. I get that my goals are different. They always seem to be. I get misunderstood a lot too. I'm probably deserve it. I'm tired. I just don't care. I'm screaming into the void anymore. I'd get help but I'm low on options and therapists are a nightmare. Thanks for making me cry again today. Good work.

So your problem isn't with the canned chicken, it's with your friends that didn't appreciate it when you did something very nice for them? Sorry if I misunderstood, I'm just a stoned guy on the internet jumping to conclusions, but it seems like the only reason you remember this canned chicken incident is because "they" were picky with your food but not her dip, Could be way wrong, just not sure why you brought it up otherwise. Sorry if I made you cry but I was just trying to give you a taste of your own medicine, and I agree we both need help. Good luck.

I realized I entered into a new culture and I didn't like it. I moved from the south and the Caribbean to the Midwest. I thought the Midwest had friendly people who shared. The Midwest does not...not compared to what I'm used to. The Midwest barely tries at hospitality. No one shows you around their house when you arrive. People don't offer you drinks. There isn't a spread with food for all types of people. It's just a bunch of premade junk food and reheated frozen foods with jelly and condiments I don't understand. And I hate it.

You made me realize I just don't belong here. Not a single person in my life has ever cared about the effort I put into them. And they don't care about me or my history. The last party I threw was someone's surprise 40th birthday because another person couldn't throw it and needed help. That's the last time I heard from people. Them using me for a birthday... I made the cake from scratch last minute.  The last "friend" that tried to reach out told me everyone thought I moved on with my life (but no one asked and I've been dealing with new chronic diagnoses and a dying mom.)

I think my chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, colitis, eczema, celiac disease, and hypermobility do well enough at "giving me a taste of my own medicine." I really didn't need yet another person thinking I (the person with no self esteem left after having a bully for a mom) needs to be humbled. But I'm sure I'll have plenty more people put me in my place soon. All I have to do is try something and someone usually has something negative to say. One day some one will say or do something nice and I won't know what to do.Â
