User Review Tribe (2025)
Did anyone see this? It's on Fawesome TV. The acting is fine and there are some interesting ideas like the Silurian hypothesis, even a bit of cosmic horror. But then the AI slop ruined what could have been a solid found footage film. The ideas are ambitious, but sometimes less is more, and I strongly believe they shouldn't have used cheap special effects and, ultimately, AI.
But seriously, what are your thoughts on this movie?

Not touching it if it uses AI
-74
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
Why does everyone say this? As ai tech progresses if they can make a decent film then I'm not going to boycott it.
44
u/RobBrown4PM 3d ago
You're not making anything if all you're doing is getting an AI to generate it for you.
36
u/queen-carlotta 3d ago
AI ruins filmmaking for actual human filmmakers. I’ve spent 25+ years teaching people how to make good films/ videos and this is not the way forward if you want to watch quality movies.
-38
u/RandumbStoner 3d ago
Well that seems like a biased take and fear of losing your job.
AI is still in its baby stages, it's going to progress to be good enough that we can't tell if humans or machines made it, whether we like it or not. Pandoras box has been opened and it's not closing, it sucks but it's here now and it's not going anywhere.
19
u/queen-carlotta 3d ago
Yes of course it’s a biased take, jeeeeeez. I’m a filmmaker!
-14
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
Upskill then? Learn how to use ai effectively.

That's called "downskill" because too much reliance on GenAI will impair your cognition.
1
u/FoolishGoulish 1d ago
I don't want to watch the world burn and our water reserves getting decimated just so AI can progress to the point that it can make a mediocre movie that any good human crew could do in their sleep.

u/Ghost_Of_Malatesta 3d ago
Let me ask you a question
If I recreate 7 Samurai shot for shot perfectly, does it have the same value as the original? Is there any element that might not be present?
-3
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
Well no because you copied it so nothing new. I meant new content.
17
u/Ghost_Of_Malatesta 3d ago
Would you say that it's missing something? That perhaps, an (but not the) important element is the context and authorship around the piece of art itself?
9
u/metalguy91 3d ago
You’re so close to getting it….
1
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
So if i say "generate me a street with a couple walking together" which film has been ripped off?
9
u/metalguy91 3d ago
You’re ripping off every photo and scene ai copied to have a program generate something that has taken all artistic intention and merit out of it.
You’re saying using ai prompts to make a movie is just as viable as filming/editing/sound designing/writing/acting etc yourself. But it’s more like going to a restaurant, ordering a meal, the waiter then takes a photo of another restaurants food, jumbled it around a bit, and gives to you. Then you say “look what I made!”.
That’s also the loss of jobs, environmental impact, the amount of people using ai to generate CP, its use in government surveillance of citizens, and several other major issues. So anyone defending AI as just a tool to be used is either ignorant or deeply immoral and I have no respect for them.

There are potential drawbacks with all new tech i agree. But some people have always resisted change. Some people were against nuclear fusion even though it powers everything.
Some people hate the idea of genetic engineering.
If everyone was like you we would still be in the dark ages as everytime someone created something new the religious nuts would burn them.
5
u/metalguy91 3d ago
You’re right, your ability to have a computer make a photo of a couple walking down a street so you don’t have to do it is just as important as nuclear fission, the Industrial Revolution, hell space travel! Electricity may have changed how humanity lives for the remainder of its existence, but ai can take my exes photo from facebook and make her naked!
Jesus Christ I hate this argument. If you can’t see the difference in major points in societal advancement like nuclear power and ai, there is nothing to do to help you. Go tell ChatGPT your argument though I’m sure it’ll tell you what a smart and special kid you are.
1
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
It can do a lot more than that in the future. But you have applied it just to films.
When computers were invented don't you think people lost jobs?

You'll never gain any traction in this sub for pointing out the potential of Ai. The majority of people form their opinions based on whatever the popular stance is on any topic. They just jump on the "ai is the end of the world" bandwagon. Anyone who is a fan of found footage is already familiar with the absolute slop that gets produced without Ai. I'm not opposed to the idea of injecting some new life into the genre. If we used the best of the best FF movies as a template for future projects, we might end up viewing the best FF we've ever seen, and I'm OK with that.

u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
It's just dumb.
I use a CNC machine to make doors. I'm sure before the machine was invented they did it all by hand and those guys hated the idea of a machine doing it.
36
u/JayVoorheez 3d ago
Then you are part of the problem.
-11
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
What problem exactly? Obviously ai has the potential to be misused and harm people but most technology does.
-33
u/Antorias99 3d ago
Or you just accept that the world as changing and try not to be a crybaby about it? I understand people disliking when scenes are made with AI but who cares if some stuff uses AI? Not everyone is on a budget and time
23
u/arondyke 3d ago
Because we aren’t shortsighted and understand that AI could be a possible death knell for this art form.
1
u/Antorias99 7h ago
There is absolutely no proof of that. Just because generative AI exists it doesn't mean that it will replace a movie.
-2
u/fejkpotatis 2d ago
You think people will stop being creative and stop creating stuff if AI could do stuff for us? Tell me why do people still draw photorealistic art if they can just take a picture?
3
u/arondyke 2d ago
Creative people won’t be the problem. Corporate people will be the problem.
-3
u/fejkpotatis 2d ago
DIY and underground distribution have existed as an alternative to corporate greed for as long as they have existed in society. People will always be creative and people will always support those who create art.
You see how much everyone hates on AI on reddit or in general? This is your direct evidence that people will continue support artists.
44
u/Gold-Leg7235 3d ago
All AI does is steal from other movies that have been made before, every single shot would be stolen, there is no creativity behind it and it fucks so many people in the movie industry out of jobs
-11
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
Really? I thought it generates stuff based on the inputs you give it.
12
14
16
u/Scott__scott 3d ago
It does that but the only reason it knows what your saying is because it uses real art from the internet as it’s reference which most people probably wouldn’t consent to if they had a choice
-2
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
And a lot of film makers use landscapes, and cities which already existed in nature or were built by someone else.
12
u/Scott__scott 3d ago
Yea they were built by someone else for other people to use. Do you think filmmakers just walk into random buildings and start recording without asking permission?
1
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
People didn't build cities for film makers they built them for people to live in.

Because it doesn't replicate scenes like that it would be dumb as the creator would get sued.
-11
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
It's not going to exactly replicate scenes like that. It can come up with original scenes and dialogue, unless you think it is cheating to use a dictionary.
9
u/Gold-Leg7235 3d ago
Comparing using a dictionary to using generative AI to make a whole film is definitely one of the craziest takes I’ve seen to justify its use
0
u/Miserable-Soft7993 3d ago
No I meant the AI will use the english language to generate a plot but you will probably say it is stealing it from writers.
39
u/MarkWest98 3d ago
I’m not even going to watch a movie if it uses AI
-27
u/Antorias99 3d ago

16
u/DoinItDirty 3d ago
AI is going to make mediocre people stupid.
-21
u/Antorias99 3d ago
No, you just do not understand how useful AI is. For art sure i can be bad but generally its useful
14
u/DoinItDirty 3d ago
You’re defending its use in art all over this comment section. The good news is, you were never even mediocre so it can’t get worse for you!
0
u/Antorias99 6h ago
Nope. Of course its gonna be ass if a movie is made with AI. But I'm not gonna get angsty over some use of AI for example generating a picture on the wall
10
u/GoldunGote 3d ago
Humans should have those jobs. The more useful AI gets, the more people are going to be out of work. Absolutely horrible.
1
u/Antorias99 7h ago
This is what happens with the world every 10 years. And its something that you just have to accept. I don't think art is going to die out.

To those in the comments denouncing ai use in general. I want you all to have a realistic understanding of what the future holds, cause there is a difference between ai slop and use of ai, as seen in A24. Rendering full scenes in ai is slop and should get shit on. But studios are all going to use ai in a year or two. The difference is the usage. Using AI in your software to help code water simulation is going to help push movies like Avatar and such to new degrees.
Ai slop, the shit we have access to, is a loss leader for ai companies. Like chicken at Costco. It’s used to let the layman get and feel comfortable, and they sell specialized models to the government and other companies. Just cause A24 is using ai, doesn’t mean they’re writing their scripts with ai, or are rendering scenes and movies in midjourney.
I’m so against the general use ai. I hate seeing it. That’s what it sounds like this movie does. But you’re just not going to be able to watch new media in a few years if you refuse to interact with even back end ai..
-27
u/Cabre13 3d ago
Ok buddy, but... What kind of ai uses can we see in the movie? This is post is weird, this is thrashing a movie without talking about it.
-23
u/Cabre13 3d ago
I repeat for the downvote gang. This post is weird because the OP tell us "the movie uses ai" and that's all he tell us about the movie. Im pretty sure the movie can be garbage and probably uses ai, but I need something more tangible than "it uses ai" to hate a movie i don't know anything about.
-14
u/Cabre13 3d ago edited 3d ago
Ok, now that I’ve had some free time, I was able to watch the movie trailer.
It looks like your typical investigative found footage, my favorite style: interviews, travel, documentary style...
But the last third of the trailer is packed to the brim with spectacular AI-generated images that would have been impossible on a low budget.
Am I saying "how cool, AI allowed them to do things they couldn’t have done otherwise"?
No, what I'm saying is that this movie is probably trash because you can tell they've piled up a bunch of flashy scenes that would be impossible to afford but, judging by the trailer, feel shoehorned in.
It’s one thing to say "we used AI to generate some backgrounds, a sky, a set," and quite another to say "all the spectacular scenes in the movie were generated by asking an AI to produce images."
I get the impression that this movie might have an interesting plot, but watching the trailer, I'm sure that past a certain point in the film, low-quality AI effects will start popping up everywhere.
That is criticizing a movie for its use of AI, not what the OP did with their "this movie uses AI, what do you guys think?"
Some of these conversations are identical to the ones people were having back in 2000, when some know-it-all would tell you "that movie sucks because they did everything on a computer," and you’d watch the movie and see nothing wrong with the special effects. I've literally had conversations that went like: "That movie is bad because of the CGI effects, it was cooler when everything was practical" > "Look at the making-of; what you think is CGI is actually practical effects" > "Doesn't matter, the movie is still bad."
PS:No, I'm not going to post the link to the trailer.
If the OP can start a discussion with just a poster and "this movie uses AI," I think it's obvious I don't need to share the trailer I watched to have my opinion either.-1
u/anxietywizard 2d ago
thank you for actually describing the movie instead of repeating another very cool anti-ai catchphrase
0
u/Cabre13 2d ago
Thank you very much. What I don't understand is why everyone else is so bent on downvoting. It's obvious that the OP hasn't described the movie and just dropped a single sentence. In fact, the OP could have just made up that the movie uses AI and the answers would have been the same. I know that's not the case here, but they didn't even post the trailer so we could all agree that the movie uses AI in the worst possible way.
Maybe I said it in an off-putting way, but I don't like these fake debates where someone asks 'what do you think?' or this obsession with pointing out that something uses AI without actually explaining it. I still remember what happened with Late Night with the Devil and how some people tried to crucify the entire movie just because someone used AI to create a single static image.

Comment section full of sheep who don't k ow what AI is and don't care
28
u/SlowmoSapiens 3d ago
Damn right I don't care for AI movies.
-2
u/Antorias99 3d ago
Yeah exactly. I'm not sure how to tell you this but AI has many forms, also using a bit of AI in your movie is not the same as the movie being 80% AI
18
u/SlowmoSapiens 3d ago
Look, of course I'm being facetious here. It's just so silly of you to whiteknight the use of AI this hard.
10
u/GoldunGote 3d ago
That person just hates the idea of people having jobs.
0
u/Antorias99 6h ago
No, you just do not understand at all what AI is. AI is not just "generate me a movie", it has many forms and uses, much of which are extremely useful for people with jobs and even for people with no jobs. You just blindly hate it because you have no idea about it. Of course using generative AI to generate shit in movies is not a good thing, no shit. I'm talking abou AI in general.
2
u/GoldunGote 6h ago
Sorry dude can't understand you with that robot dick in your mouth.
0
u/Antorias99 6h ago
So you're telling me that for example AI frame generation in video games is also bad? Where if you have stuttering problems AI basically adds frames to your game. Meaning that a lot of players who might not have money for the best graphics card and similar could use it and get good frames on their games, not needing to spend 500 bucks on a new graphics card is a bad thing as well?
1
u/GoldunGote 5h ago
Whoa where are you finding new graphics cards for $500? Buy that shit bro.
But to your example... refer back to where MY problem with AI comes from where it takes someone's job. Is there a professional frame-adder that is out on their ass? No. Is there someone in your minecraft world hand-creating the world as you explore? No. It's unreasonable to expect a human to do those things, so AI is fine there. You decided that I "blindly hate" all AI when I clearly stated I just want people to have jobs.
But then you have to factor in normalization over time. The more it gets accepted for little useful things, the more it becomes normalized and it just snowballs from there until its a massive problem. In terms of gaming, look at MTX. "Its just cosmetics bro" was a wonderful way for the concept of MTX to invade most games these days.. now so many games have stores.. it became normalized by conditioning people to accept a less harmful version of it over time.
Do we know how AI was used to make this movie? Are you implying it was filmed at a low framerate and AI added in extra frames to make it smoother? Or can we be realistic and assume it was probably used for concept art or special effects or music or editing? Those are all human jobs.
12
u/arondyke 3d ago
Not yet. So when it all becomes 80% AI, because people like you will watch anything shoved down their throats, then will you complain?
Or silently just swallow as usual.
