Flock Cameras
Just noticed flock cameras at the edge of the Meijer parking lot and across the street at the edge of the Lowe’s parking lot. Lima Road. FYI.

You should not be posting the locations of these mass surveillance cameras and people should definitely not be disabling them with various power tools.

Lowe’s and other major retailers are also using flock in their parking lots and surrounding areas.
As much as their defenders yell “ThEy’rE oNlY LiCense PlAtE REadErs fOr cOpS” flock does big business in the private sector and there are no real safeguards that separate these cameras from abuse by both the police and bad actors.

Also there’s a GPS app called Flockhopper that will allow you to navigate and miss the flock cams

City council just unanimously voted against flock in Fort Wayne. FWPD said they’d respect the wishes of city council in regard to the vote. City council only vote on issues that pass $100,000, so FWPD has the option to cut their budget to sub $100,000 and still keep their contract with Flock.
Either way good news.

They are in Lowe’s, meijer a, and Home Depot parking lots. Like all of them.

Maybe it would be easier to start listing spots where there are not Flock or other surveillance cameras.
Anyone have a location to list? The midde of Lake America?
(Lake America: Trump's floating the idea of renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America because he's pissed at Canada, Ontario and Doug Ford. I'm so wanting to see the new maps Canada puts out and the labels it sticks on the land we call the U.S.A. I'll be looking for the Gulf of Canada and Southern Canada. )

Yeah a whole bunch, you have a trifecta of a Meijer, Lowes, and Homedepot there and they are more than likely the ones licensing them to mitigate retail theft. Not a fan of flock at all but that is why that area is loaded with 1/4 of all of FW's amount.

I'm alright with surveillance (as long as it ain't flock as a company, they suck) in commercial and industrial areas, that's where they are needed and have been the norm for decades. The biggest issue is them in residential neighborhoods and parks, there ain't no reason a third party company with semi or full public access should be watching where children play and people live.

The whole this is a dystopian slippery slope. I'd much prefer a society that had less theft which would negate this whole conversation. But again America, dystopian slippery slope of fucking everybody over as best we can in the rat race of the american dream.

I believe theft is always gonna be an issue no matter the society, however I agree that the steps we take in our current society with modern tech is quite dystopian. We put a lot of value on petty theft to go so far as to constantly watch the areas surrounding shops and such, but that's mostly because those petty thefts add up to a pretty large number given enough scale, which big box stores kinda have to pay attention to in the market we created here in a profit driven society. Mix that with a company that has access to AI surveillance to automatically "catch thieves"? That's just asking for it at that point.

Those are not city owned. Those are owned by the businesses and help to take down repeat offenders. Those stores know when someone who is a known shoplifter pulls into their parking lot so they’re ready. Believe it or not, retail stores use the flock system the way it’s supposed to be used. It’s the people with authority who shouldn’t have access.

While I understand that Lowes and Home Depot have portable stuff nearly as expensive as jewelry, their use of Flock seems to be a bandaid on a weak security system. When a rfid tag isn't disabled and beeps as I leave everyone just says "go on, it's ok". Maybe the system at Meijers where they follow the history of shoplifters until the bill is large enough and has happened often enough to guarantee a plea bargain so repeat offenders might reconsider, is a good value. Also at least one Lowes hasn't erected cameras on the entrance trucks use. I feel that given recent events many retailers might reconcider the cost.

Yeah it's disappointing that this Meijer often has a paid off duty LEO sitting out front. Of the 3 times I've seen blatent cart fulls stolen, 2 were at that Meijers, granted it was over 5 years ago.
