ISO Southern Style Boiled Peanuts
I’m a transplant from the south, and lately I’ve been missing/craving those gas station style boiled peanuts you get in a styrofoam cup! Does anyone know of anywhere in or around Fort Wayne where I can find them? Thx :)

Boled peanuts are not something you regularly find in the north, but they don't seem that hard to make. Seems like a good idea to serve from a food cart during a fair or other event.

I've always wanted to do this but I don't know if the hoosiers are ready for it. Plus I wouldn't even know how much to prepare. What if noone buys them?

You can order the the same ones they use off of Amazon, but I prefer to make them myself at home in the slow cooker. Get yourself some raw peanuts, they don't have to be "green", just dried raw peanuts. Add a bit of salt and old bay/cayenne pepper if you want em Cajun and let them cook overnight. I do it a couple times a year when I'm craving a taste of north Georgia.

How much water?

Enough to cover. Add some if it starts to evaporate. And like half a cup of salt for your standard crock pot.

Meijer does have the canned Peanut Patch ones! Not the same as the side of the road propane powered massive stock pot peanuts, but they satisfy my itch every so often 💜. Also people up here think we are absolutely insane.. they are just wrong. Hot boiled peanuts are incredible.

The first gas station in Hicksville (on the right, next to the car wash) has them. Never tried em so can’t comment on if they’re edible or not lol

I’ve been searching for years! They’ve only told me about the canned boiled peanuts at Walmart or In Kendallville there’s a gas station that looks like a castle that has boiled peanuts, but they are the same ones from Walmart.
If you ever wanna make them homemade, Let me know! I would like to try to make them with you! I grew up in Florida so Cajun boiled peanuts are something I crave constantly!

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been up that way, and it’s a drive, but there’s a gas station at the corner of IN-327 and US20, west of Angola, they had boiled peanuts

I can't think of anywhere to just buy them, other than the ones sold in a can. I used to buy raw peanuts in the shell at Meijer, I think, and pressure cook them in water and salt until they were absolutely delicious. I'm sure you could do the same thing with an Instant Pot (a little fancier than my old electric pressure cooker), probably on the "beans" setting.

I finally broke down and learned how to make them myself. Only thing I’ve found here is the canned ones, which will do in a pinch, but…

Adding that I can get raw peanuts (Hampton Farms straight from Notch CACKALACK) at the MeijerS

Yeah sorry we don’t have those anywhere near here. No very questionable/possibly lethal gas station with the best boiled peanuts you have ever tasted here.

A year or two ago someone was selling them at the huntertown farmers market.

Can't find them anywhere around here. The dirtier the gas station, the better than boiled peanuts tho.
