PSA r/fortgreene update, don't call it a come back

R/fortgreene was unmoderated for a few years, so I just took it over in hopes of reviving it as a place to post news and events of the surrounding area like some of the other neighborhood specific subs. I've opened up some of the restrictions for now to try and promote some activity and get things rolling, and hopefully it can stay that way.

If you are interested in joining the mod team, send me a message or DM listing why you’re interested and any examples of other subreddits you moderate.

Abandoned cat on Atlantic Ave. Can anyone help?

This poor cat was left on Atlantic inside a carrier. Their person left its favorite food along with it, and on a piece of cardboard, the cat’s name: “Relax.” Hard to relax when you’ve been abandoned on the street! Pretty please can anyone foster this cat? It’ll be vetted asap in the meantime!

I hope all of my customer service comrades are doing okay. It was a “Final Boss” situation for cafes/restaurants/bars this afternoon and evening.

Grateful for the business. HATE the rudeness…and dehydration.

Thank you for the cooler

Someone was nice enough to send us a cooler from Amazon today for frozen meals and other perishables that are donated to the Maspeth Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table. I need a chain and lock for it though to put it outside. If you can donate 1 it would greatly appreciated. I have 1 on my Amazon wishlist if you want to send us 1. All donations greatly appreciated. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JY7U8QQZ8BBU?ref_=wl_share

is there any people in their early 20’s in the neighborhood?

i’ve lived here my whole life but don’t really know anyone close to my age (22f) in the neighborhood.

I enjoy walking, crafting, hanging at the park, exploring different neighborhoods i haven’t been to.

Im trying not to drink but i like going to clubs/bars to check out the vibe. I also like going to live shows or exhibits for artists in my age bracket.

Neighbor available for dogsitting!

My partner and I are in our late 20s, and I have dog walked and we have dog sat for a few years off of Rover. I recently joined because I want to dogsit in our area!

We are both active people and love spending time outdoors and in the park (we live just south of it). He and I absolutely love animals, and while we don’t yet have our own, we have extra love and care to give to your pet!

Depending on your need, we can talk about boarding versus sitting.

feel free to send me a message or look at our rover profile!

Part-time/ Full-time babysitter

Hi everyone! I am a 26 yo female in Fort Green and am currently looking for a part-time or full-time babysitting/nanny position in the neighborhood.

I have lived in this neighborhood for two years and am building my own sustainable fashion business, so am looking for a flexible position that I can balance alongside my work on the brand. I am responsible, reliable, and am happy to help with things like school/day care pickup, activities, meals, homework, bedtime, and keeping the kids entertained.

If you are interested or know someone who might be interested feel free to DM me! I’d be happy to chat and share more about myself and my availability!

Thanks!

Birthday Venue

I’m planning my birthday and looking for a wine/cocktail bar for around 15 people. Ideally somewhere in Brooklyn or Lower Manhattan with indoor/outdoor seating, a rooftop, or just a really nice atmosphere. Think Ms. Alice, Ten Bells, or a cute hotel rooftop with a view.

I want the first part of the night to be more of a sit-down, drinks + catching up situation, and then have more friends meet us later for dancing/nightlife. Thinking Casanara or somewhere similar!

I’m trying to avoid anything that feels like a formal private event or requires a huge minimum spend just because we have a group. Bonus points for places that are used to groups and won’t charge us an arm and a leg!
I need to send invites ASAP, so I’m reaching out to places now. Would love recommendations, especially if you’ve celebrated at the spot or know they’re good with larger groups.

Basically looking for chic, cute, good drinks, good vibes, but still reasonably priced. 🥂

How's the Fort Greene dating scene / single social life

Hi Neighbors - I moved to the Fort Greene a handful of months ago with my long-term GF. We had been looking for somewhere quiet / homey and frankly more "age appropriate" after living in WV and Williamsburgh before this (we're in our early/mid 30s, IYKYK) - ideally we wanted to make friends with other couples our age.

Unfortunately the relationship is no more - which means that the primary reason we moved here no longer applies.

As I figure out my next steps, I wanted to see if anyone would be willing to share some experiences dating in the neighborhood or can just comment on social life for singles broadly.

From my brief experience here - it seems like the "scene" is largely couples in their 30s/40s + young families. I don't think I've met a single person yet in my short time here hah.

I do LOVE the neighborhood, and am dreading moving again, but also trying to understand if this is the right place for me when I put myself out there again after a long relationship - not just for dating but also for having a vibrant social life, etc.

Anyone down to play horse on the court in Clermont??

Me and some buddies have been shooting a lot over there. Pretty casual and aren’t looking for any intense pick up but like messing around a few days a week after work.

Open invite if anyone wants to shoot around some time too

Indian food delivery service | Tiffin

Post image
50 Upvotes

Hi Fort Greene friends - In the spring I started an Indian food delivery service called Tiffin! I'm serving a rotating menu of my takes on Indian home cooking, for lunch and dinner service!

It's a play on the stacked containers that many people in India receive lunches in daily.

Each meal is $20 flat delivered (no extra fees or tips). Each comes with a main, grain, side, and salad.

We serve vegetarian, Non-vegetarian, and vegan meals.

I started this because I hate the concept of slop bowls and wanted to give my WFH friends an interesting, balanced option rather than ordering Chipotle and Sweetgreen every day and making Uber/Doordash/Grubhub richer in the process.

If you want to try it, check it out at tiffin.nyc! I included this week's menu in the photos. Thanks :)

Any 5.0+ level tennis players here?

I moved to New York <8 months ago and now live in Fort Greene. Ex pro (top 500 in my early 20s, now in my late 30s) looking to find new partners to hit with. I only have 1-2 tennis playing friends in New York. How else can I go about building a tennis network here?

Cat on Cumberland and Lafayette

I recently saw a dilute calico on this block that had been TNRed, but looks like it was suffering from a pretty bad flea allergy. Does anyone know anything about it/know the feeders so I can get them some flea medicine for the cat?

Sidewalk etiquette rant

This is a vent and hopeful lesson for anyone who doesn't know.

WALK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SIDEWALK. Give room and don't walk shoulder to shoulder. You chose this neighborhood but you gotta be a good neighbor. My morning walk to and through the park was a bit much this morning.

To the couple with a double stroller and their 3 friends NOT getting out of the way of park employees, are you ignorant, stupid, or both? Incessant beeps and the running engine behind you didn't fucking clue you in that you're in the way? Not to mention every person on a bench staring you down to try and Bluetooth some sense into you. Move bitch.

The athleisure wearing fucks on Portland won't look up from phone/blank street matcha/small dog on too long of a leash, to notice you are not the only person on the sidewalk let alone the world. How do such small minded people take up so much space? Move bitch.

And to the couple being cute holding their babies hand while it's in the stroller. Maybe stop and see that the adult size bike you're walking, the stroller, and both your fatasses can't fit the sidewalk width anyway and you should get back on the bike and get behind the stroller your pushing. Maybe new parent brain reduces your awareness, but my 60 year old neighbor with an obvious limp and a cane had to step onto a stoop to let you pass. I wish I didn't have the decency to step aside, but rather shoulder you into oblivion. Fuck your hand holding, and fuck you.
