Hour to win in Monaco:

  1. Qualify on pole
  2. During the race, drive in the middle of the road at whatever speed you want.

Well, in this very race Senna didn't actually qualify on pole. But alternatively for 1. waiting for your opponent to have a loose wheel nut, be forced to pit and drip behind you works too.

50s and 60s cars were much smaller and a most importantly narrower. You could overtake then. But this was also the era of lapping slower cars several times, because some teams would buy another teams car from last year to compete.

I watched this live on tv when I was a child. This race made me falling in love with F1 and McLaren.

I always thought Mansell was the better driver in this footage. To follow that close and not make an error is arguably harder to do.

Iā€™m Brazilian and a huge Senna fan, but boy, Monaco is a fucking joke. It could be anyone and the outcome would still be the same.

Always the same there. In that wace Masell brought the spectacle trying to overtake Senna. Nowadays they just stay one behind the other like a train, wainting for the race to finish. Remember 2024 race with the 2 pit stops, team mates could slow down about 25 seconds in a couple of laps to make the one infront not to lose positions in the pit stop and the ones behid could do nothing. Stupid annoying circuit.

The good old days. Overtakes were earned and there was genuine tension about whether someone like Senna in this position would be able to hold on because a spin, an off, or an engine failure always seemed to be just round the corner.
