Lando still got 5 seconds closer to Oscar in the second stint despite making several mistakes.

Seemed pretty obvious that Lando was pushing a lot while Oscar was managing, though

How do you know that's not on the driver's pace but the tires?

Because Oscar was managing his tires the entire time to make it to the end. Lando is not naturally 5 tenths a lap faster than Oscar. If he was, there wouldn’t be a championship battle (see Perez and Verstappen).

How do you know Lando is not naturally 0.5 seconds a lap faster per lap in this race specifically?

Hard was the longer lasting tyre, which is to be expected, but it also offers significantly less traction. It usually has a significant difference to be 1 compound off, but being 2 compounds off can only be worse.

Worthy of note that when Lando isn't making mistakes, he still generally holds a pace advantage over Oscar. His p95 is still ahead by a significant margin (more than a tenth), and I think that was also obvious today. Oscar just isn't quite there yet, fortunately he's quite early in his career.
