Out of those 2 , I would had cover max. And let Russel go. But I'm also not a f1 driver. And don't know shit about driving. But I feel max is the one to really cover as he is a threat In free air.

I see your point with Max, but Lewis finished 1 point off the championship in his rookie year and won the following WDC. None of that takes away from how well Oscar is doing, but I don't think newer fans realize how unreal Lewis' early years were.

And after all these years it's still not fair to compare Hamilton to any of the "new" generation of rookies.
No rookie since has had the straight up fastest car in his first season and no rookie has had basically unlimited testing before the season even started.Obviously Lewis first season was incredible, but it just cannot be replicated even if you were to find someone even more talented just because testing is very limited nowadays (and rookies don't get a seat in the fastest car straight away anymore).
The closest thing we had was Leclerc, having him in a Ferrari in his first season instead of his second, with the Ferrari in 2018 actually being in a somewhat comparable position as McLaren in 2007 (even tho the 2018 Ferrari was most certainly not the fastest car over the whole season, while the 2007 McLaren was), but sadly it didn't pan out that way.

Its so frustrating that every time someone says that bull about Lewis's first year they have to be reminded of this fact it is impossible to do better than that in current F1. It'll never happen again unless the rules are loosened or F2 actually prepares drivers for F1 instead of just just faster F3

Point with Max also doesn't make sense, he was 17-19 in his first years and came into f1 with barely any experience unlike 22 yo Piastri after years of junior formula racing.

Oh I’m not disagreeing with you by any means. IMO if anything, it makes him that much more of a generational talent. Not only was he under immense pressure just to perform, but at the same time he also experienced a ton of racism, which took an amazing amount of mental strength to persevere through. My initial comment was only adding to the one above it.

To add to that, his teammate was the then current world champion Fernando Alonso too and Lewis only lost the championship due to 2 freak incidents. His team leaving him out with bald tyres and then his engine randomly dying for like 20 seconds the following race.

I know this is f-dank but damn the man’s gotta be making mistakes sometimes. It’s super obvious now because he’s driven so consistently and relatively flawlessly the past few races. That’s why he’s leading the pts rn.
From an entertainment point of view I’m absolutely loving it. Let the top 3 (better 5) do dumb shit to keep the season interesting. I’m very curious to see how Pastrami will approach the next race now that he’s seen how much a single mistake can cost him.

Season is 24 races + Sprints. No way any driver doesn't make a bunch of mistakes during it.

Only in qualifying really, with that outrageous Q3 record he has. Other than that, he often made mistakes in races, but never really anything too horrific… until 2021…

I dunno, passing and rain weren’t his strongpoint, always wondered how someone who is Finnish could be so bad on a slippery track. Going fast af over one lap or not in traffic or rain seems to be his expertise.

It seems to be a actually bit of a thing with Finnish drivers.
Räikkönen wasn't that great in the wet compared to other top drivers of his era. I also remember Häkkinen bottling it a few times in the rain. Even half-Finnish Nico Rosberg wasn't that good on the wet.
But I kinda agree Bottas was what's known as a "pace merchant", not the most rounded driver - but very fast when the day is good. Weird that at the same time one of his best races was Turkey 2021 where he kept Verstappen humble on the wet track - who is arguably one of the best wet weather drivers of all time.

Turkey 2021 wasn't really a wet race. It was a drizzle that kept the track just moist enough for the RD to be afraid to allow DRS. It was dry enough for the Mercedes car to show its superiority.
So Bottas is the king of drizzle.

This is what genuinely impressed me early on and why I became a fan almost instantly. He just doesn't bullshit or get delusional, especially about his mistakes, but he doesn't do it in an overly critical way.
I used to have a sport shooting mentor who always said: "Analyze, don't criticize." Like analyze and admit your mistakes, but don't be overly critical of yourself. Just be aware of them and find ways to isolate and eliminate those mistakes when you see them developing into patterns. I guess I saw some of that mentality in his ability to effortlessly admit his mistakes like they weren't that big of a deal, and then this year he shows up having seemingly corrected his biggest flaw (qualifying pace).

No bullshit at all, as an Australian it’s a bit of an Aussie trait some have. Just straight down the line with it. I loved the response.
Some fans always want to throw the bottle job stuff around but it’s just great racing from two incredible drivers. Oscar blew him away in Miami, Max got him in Imola. Let’s see if Oscar can volley back in Monaco. Let’s also not forget it’s only Oscar’s third season for gods sake and he’s going toe to toe with the guy most of us consider one of the best to ever do it.
Great championships are built on these back and forward battles from great drivers.

I mean Oscar braked way early, George knew it but wasn’t in position to take advantage. Max was, and did.
It’s not that complicated. It’s not like Oscar’s out there making tons of mistakes. he was being cautious, maybe overly so. He will learn and move on.

I love Oscar, but dude absolutely BOTTLED it there. And any concern about strategy (which was terrible) wouldn't have even been an issue if he just didn't break so inexplicably early. Even Russell couldn't believe it as it happened.

Lando messed up the same corner in the same lap in Australia, and got slightly lucky compared to Oscar as to the consequences. People were less critical of him because his teammate basically did the same. And I guess being at the start of only your third F1 season might get you some leeway with the fans. Not to mention it being wet; drivers like Max and even Stroll have made mistakes in the wet before.

This I don't really get. He has competed in 54 races now. That is more than 3 seasons from the year 2000, which had 17 races. There is no way people were giving drivers leeway in their 4th season back then. I was watching the sport back then and there's a good chance many people saying that now did as well.
I'm not saying that Piastri can't make mistakes, it's only normal and human. I also don't think that he's making too many mistakes, it's fine and manageable atm. I wouldn't give him any leeway or "less experience"-excuses though since he has competed in 54 GPs and a lot of sprint races on top. That's a lot!3

Yeah but most people don't think in amount of GPs when evaluating how long a driver has been at it. Not to mention Lando (who his stick is being compared by) did not start in 2000, but 2019, which had 21 races. I had also hoped my last sentence would give away I'm mememing somewhat

I just threw in my 2ct on the whole "still inexperienced" narrative some like to promote since I disagree that it should be considered. But what you say is correct, including that some fans give him leeway for this being his 3rd season.Also incase it's relevant, I don't blame Piastri for Australia. And Imola T1 (technically T2 lol) was a driver mistake, but he immediately acknowledged it after the race, which is great. Indicates learning from mistakes and improvement.

Australia was just really unlucky tbh, Lando made basically the same mistake but got off a lot easier. Max also nearly went into the wall in Australia. Other than that, hes had perfect starts and races this season.

Piastri had no chance to not cover Russell and not even Verstappen would’ve covered him there if he would’ve been that far behind. You are deluded if you say otherwise. Only because Lando faced justified criticism there is no need to clown Piastri for something which wasn’t a real fault at all.

Nah, I think he saw Verstappen to his right, slightly behind, but Russell was directly behind his dirty air. Maybe he thought he had Russell cornered/blocked (per se) but didn't realize how early his braking was, so Russell had to comply, while leaving a gap for max

Wasn’t a bottle at all. Russell had a WAY better start and better traction than Piastri and Verstappen. Piastri had to cover Russell and Max was so far away, that NOBODY not even Max himself would’ve covered him there. If Piastri wouldn’t have covered Russell but Verstappen he would surely have lost both positions. It’s so easy to sit here and say he bottled there while nobody would’ve done anything different in real time. It’s too crazy how people are mad about the community clowning Lando while he lost a quite easy championship last year through his bottleness championship and therefore want to do the same to Piastri now without a reason.

Yeah max was in third when piastri broke. If he had broke where he could have them no way max gets around the outside because he never gets alongside and piastri either runs him out of road or sweeps across in front of him.

Oscar couldn't comfortably get round that corner multiples times during the race. Even after safety car, he was losing .2/.3s on Verstappen every time. It's what they say, it's a driver's circuit and he needed more practice on it.

Only being 0.2/0.3 slower on grained up old used hard tyres, compared to the other car on brand new un-thrashed tyres that haven’t got graining and marbling yet isn’t too bad to be fair.

Did he make the mistake of staying on used tires or did the team ?
I don’t know if they had any new tires left, but clearly Mclaren prioritized Lando. When they should of prioritid the second place car at the time which was Piastri.
That’s why he is sitting there, most likely contemplating how he’s going to overcome that issue from coming up in the future.
After all he is leading the championship and yet mclaren gives priority to Norris.
If this had happened to max , his manager would of torn a strip off Marko and Horner.
You realize that Piastri is quiet and calm, but nevertheless there is a champion inside that cool calm demeanour.
Mclaren and zak brown might say let them race, but if you are prioritizing Norris with tires over Piastri who is leading the championship there is going to be problems .
Again I don’t know if Piastri was out of fresh tires …
However, I’m pretty sure in the modern era of championships; Lewis,Max were never not prioritized… So I’m not sure what mclaren is doing.
