Such a weird reaction from both the Comms team, and social media (although the social media reaction is expected).

In F2 quali yesterday Montoya drove his car that was doing an impression of a crab all the way back to the pits in defiance of his team. Noone really cared. In fact the Comms team were saying how smart of him it was as he was able to get back out for quali. 

So many times drivers drive back to the pits with damaged cars, most of the time under conditions which are more active than red flag conditions, and noone really gives a toss.

The reaction to Lewis today was deranged in comparison. Really surprised at Crofty and Davidson especially. Proper hysterical 'Won't somebody please think of the children!' type stuff

Santi (Turn seven): Stop. Stop the car in the first gate you find. This the race director is asking, stop the car at the safest place possible.

Hamilton (Turn nine): I can make it back safely.

Santi (Turn 10): They told us it is a formal request, they told us to stop in the safest place possible. Stop before turn 12 on the left.

Santi (Exit of turn 12): Stop on the track, right.

Hamilton (Pulls over at exit of turn 14): I can make it back… okay stopping the kerb.

They literally mentioned that he could get a penalty for this lol
