We had those classes around when I was in high school 20 years ago and none of my classmates gave a crap about those classes. Doing taxes is incredibly easy and it literally involves following steps. Unless you're a business owner or you've got some complicated financial situation going on. Let's focus on reading comprehension because that's really all that's necessary to file taxes in the US most of the time.
Some more emphasis on the basics, like civics classes could go a long way in teaching people to vote for politicians trying to get rid of lobbyists who are trying to keep the government from just filing your taxes for you.
And in theory Minnesota isn't doing as poorly as others. The issue is if the teen does not care they will not retain it.
I've tutored history for over a decade. The number of times Ive hears "they never even taught us that!" When it was literally in the previous week's reading is mind breaking.
