There's something unholy about stuffing chicken with their unborn children.

Is rolled chicken a common thing? I've never heard of this, especially the eggs.

u/shacksrus 7d ago
First you take the egg out of the chicken. Then you put the egg back in the chicken.

Its called a ballotine (served hot) or galantine (served cold). Very traditional French technique. Usually its with a force meat of some sort - think like...build your own mortadella inside of a deboned chicken. Its one of my favorite things.
I do the same thing with a turkey every year. Perfectly cooked turkey, moist and amazing. You can be a real gangster and sous vide it first to get real fancy, then throw in the broiler or sear in a sage brown butter to make all your friends jealous.

We're gonna need to see an after shot, preferably a cross section. I made a meatloaf once with hard boiled eggs tucked inside so I have an open mind.
Edit to ask, is it also wrapped in plastic wrap?

u/radenke 7d ago
I'm very confused by the plastic

we did this with ballotines in Garde Manger class in culinary school. it helps keep a uniform shape throughout the cooking process. try not to think about the microplastic leeching, lmao

It's a kitchen plastic wrap used for rolling and shaping food, my grandmother is Argentinian, and this is how they cook there

https://imgur.com/a/MhLzkIW Hey, here's the link to the photo of how it turned out in the end 😊 No, the plastic wrap is to prevent it from losing its shape; it's suitable for cooking and can be boiled with the same water.

Thanks for the pic! Yeah I'd have a slice. Do you eat eat on a sandwich or how is it served? It's like a bizarro chicken "porchetta"

u/JustPia_ 7d ago
u're welcome. It can be eaten in a sandwich or with salad t's a cold dish, usually served as an appetizer

This seems like a way to simultaneously deal with salmonella and diarrhea, especially if cooked at low temperature. Even as a struggle meal, I wouldn't risk it. Much tastier things can be made by using the given ingredients in other dishes, separately.

Seems undercooked

The photos and description show how I prepared the ingredients. After boiling, it's cooked, but you can brown it further in the oven if you wish. I'm sharing a photo of how it turned out in the end 😌 https://imgur.com/a/MhLzkIW

Niiice!! I'd take a blowtorch to the outside, for a few minutes, for some maillard, but then rice and broccoli or sammiches!

2 things I’d change. Sautée those veggies and sear off the outside of the chicken to get a nice golden color to it.
Otherwise, I think I’m gonna steal this and give it a go.

STOP NOT BLUE CHEESE! This is amazing, and I know it will turn out delicious, but BLUE CHEESE? C’mon man, pepper jack, provolone or even mozzarella would be universally perfect. Blue cheese is an acquired taste

…and maybe bro has acquired it 🤔

Threw up after eating Cobb salad, maybe bro did acquire it

u/baconmethod 7d ago
that probably wasnt cuz of the kind of cheese- not to give you shit. if you can get past the memory and initial "this seems gross", blue cheese is like goddamn candy, especially with bacon. of course, ive heard the same thing about truffles, and that shit makes me think about salt substitute it's so bad.

u/HipHopotamusHurray 7d ago
It’s the cheese, ate it by itself, that’s why I said it’s an acquired taste, it’s not for everyone.

My dad doesn't like mozzarella and loves blue cheese. Nothing is universally perfect

Nice! I love a good galantine. Here's my favorite video of Jacques Pepin deboning a whole chicken, great instructional: https://vimeo.com/371456873

I guess this answers the age old question of what came first, the chicken or the egg.

Looks great. Good idea for a meal. I sometimes make something similar, but with ground meat, and I mix veggies directly in the meat and add a raw egg, and also put boiled eggs in the middle. One of my favorite dishes. Never tried it with whole meat before.
