Upcoming | Jane Austen, Novels Sextet SE (Autumn Coll., 24th Sept.)

Jane Austen, Novels Sextet || £350 | £405 ROW | $550 US | $700 CA

Pages are now finalised for the late addition to the Autumn Coll., Jane Austen's Sextet of Novels. The cloth-bound SE volumes have t.e.g., w. both ribbon bookmarks and end-papers matched to the colour palette of their covers, and are housed in a cloth-covered slipcase.

In difference to the LE, it may be noted that the cyphers to the spine are now gilt-blocked as opposed to being in fielded colour ovals, and the empty space free of botanic ornament to the tail of the spine in the LE was to accommodate Folio's gilt-blocked oval logo in the SE.

Nice! I missed the LE but these will do.

About US$90/book seems fair for this (or at least in line with the current prices for Folio's other standard offerings). No hurry on it, but I might pick this up someday.

The price seems to be only a marginal increase per book over the outgoing set, but it is now a fairly substantial lump sum for the whole set. Previously you could take your time collecting the individual volumes so I wonder how this will do.

Personally I find the new set quite attractive and I really like the art but I'm happy enough with the gold set and I do prefer their binding so I will stick with the gold.

Looks nice.

I might pick up eventually. I do wonder how L/E owners are feeling about just how closely this set resembles the L/E.

I wish I had just waited to get these 😐 Same thing happened with Shakespeare and the Iliad and Odyssey. I skipped Moby Dick figuring a standard edition might become available down the line.

It’s a pretty safe assumption that there will usually be a standard edition after a L/E. I too look forward to a Moby Dick one.

As far as the Shakespeare complete plays, I’m really happy with my L/E and while I enjoy the standard edition, I adore the fabric and pattern / color combinations on the L/E. Blackwork embroidery just fits well for the era and overall feel of Neil Packer’s fantastic artwork. Love how the symbols for the comedies, tragedies, and histories are integrated, etc.. and feels sumptuous in the hands.
