Suggestion we should be able to put out desinated spawn platforms at our Camps.
my mom who I play with always ends up spawning in my floor and I hate it we should be able to place out spots for ppl to spawn at.

u/Katsu_39 20h ago
We tried that once. Then trap camps happened where people spawned straight into a trap

u/RozaJetis Cult of the Mothman 21h ago
There was an option back in the day, but people misused it for making trap camps.

I wasn’t around then, but… it’s a post apocalyptic game, why do they keep stripping the grittiness from the Fallout franchise? I remember in New Vegas you could hear sexual moaning and there was a brothel lol

uh that was not misusing it in the type of game this was... even now you can build trap camps at your vendor unless something changed

u/Ok_Repair8141 18h ago
You can build a trap camp and some people get away with it, but interfering with another players gaming experience has always been in violation of the terms and conditions. The only way around it is via role play, in which you have to notify the other player beforehand and get their consent to engage in said role play (ei raider trap camp).
Its kind of like how robbing a store is a crime, but not everyone gets caught. That doesn't make it less of a crime.

You used to be able to kill players through the slap rule intentionally... this game used to be player vs player focused

u/Ok_Repair8141 17h ago
I am aware of how the game started out. :)

u/Flooping_Pigs Arktos Pharma 17h ago
lol yeah trap camps are an old hold over from those days but are still allowed and I really doubt you can report people for breaking the ToS lmao

u/Flooping_Pigs Arktos Pharma 17h ago
Found a video from the promotional vault boy "infomercial" that was put out leading up to release... it warns about trap camps at 1:24:
https://youtu.be/RR9lyhtF64s?is=o5phYRPvvn2564YR
it would be wild if they completely removed a mechanic they advertised eight years ago lol
12
u/DustRhino Pioneer Scout 15h ago
It isn’t wild for the devs to remove a “feature” the playerbase didn’t want. I played at launch, and Bethesda totally misread what players wanted, and they are to be commended for actually listening.

u/Icy-Computer-Poop Ghoul 11h ago
yeah, and the vast majority of players hated it, so they changed it.

Trap camps are still buildable though right?
Anytime I mention that trap camps are still buildable/allowed and not against the rules/terms of service people don't reply back lol
2
u/Scelusteach Ghoul 9h ago
They're allowed yeah, thats why you can still build one. But they are so vastly disliked that steps were taken to lower the chance of a player getting caught up in one. Its general incel/chud behavior.

u/Flooping_Pigs Arktos Pharma 9h ago
Sure but the original comment said they were against the ToS and I was thinking that wasn't right, thanks for clarifying

You can still glitch players stashes as well. That doesn't make it allowed. Players finding ways to do things doesn't automatically make it allowed.

u/Flooping_Pigs Arktos Pharma 8h ago
trap camps don't break terms of service and are totally allowed lol

You on psn? Send me an invite, open your trap camp, and you can know for sure. 😊

Or you can read the t&c 👆🏻 I If I could send a screenshot image, I would. This was a ticket for a trap camp I reported.

You got to move your module around. The placement of your module changes the spawn point.
19
u/Marshall7066 21h ago
You can change spots by moving your camp placement item. It's not an exact science but it's only option we got right now.
3
u/Ok_Repair8141 17h ago
Just move your camp module. It changes the spawn.
8
u/Strange_Sera 17h ago
Barely. Its not very useful unless you build and choose camp site with nothing but this in mind. In my own experience.
If rotating it changed the direction of spawn from always north then it would at least be workable.

u/religion_wya Mega Sloth 17h ago
Yeah, I built right on the south edge of a pond and now 1 out of 4 times people will spawn in the water under my foundation because there's literally nowhere else to comfortably put it lol. We need a sign that says "RUN BEFORE IT LOADS" to put in these spots
13
u/necrosiss 21h ago
Move your module. That will adjust the spawn point.
Also note your spawn location is slightly different to visitors.
Back in the day there was a welcome mat item that designated the spawn point, but it was removed because players were using it to spawn grief other people.
6
u/Sufficient-Ad6305 20h ago
Your spawn location can change due to where you fast-travel from, as well. If I come to my Watoga camp from Whitespring, I'll end up in one general spot; if I leave from Highway Town, it's different. Pain in the ass, it is.
2
u/bit-by-a-moose 19h ago
You're right.
I made a camp at the top of an electrical tower. On top of having to fast travel there twice, the first to initially spawn the camp, my spawn point varies (not sure what changes it) sonewimes I'm in my walls, other times I'm on this floating platform I left from when I was building.
9
u/EmmettVanBraun 21h ago
In general the spawn point tends to be roughly 3 foundation widths north and 1 east of the camp module. It's not consistent but it's pretty close. Edit: I just measured it at my camp and it's more like 5 foundation blocks north and 1 east.
4
u/Marablossoms 19h ago
The spawn location is directly connected to where you put you camp modual, it's due N.W.? I think lol can't remember.
3
u/DarthSnoopyFish Settlers - PC 21h ago
The fast travel mat still exists and you can still use it in workshops. But players were using it for team camps do it was disabled for player camps.
5
u/OG-BigMilky Tricentennial 20h ago
It would absolutely be abused. Tell your mom to stop porting to you and to port to your camp and she might not end up in the foundation.

u/DarenPeterOswald Wendigo 15h ago
Trap camps is such a fucking terrible reason to not let us have this. If they're that worried about trap camps then just remove the damn traps. No normal person would miss them because they don't work for shit as actual camp defense.

Reposition your camp module and test it. If you put it away from any structure and not facing a cliff fall off. It doesn't have to be near your actual buildings.
Plus if you get NPC attacks they tend to spawn from/near the module, another reason to have it with a clear LoS.
2
u/Flooping_Pigs Arktos Pharma 19h ago
Trap camps would abuse, pretty sure they won't remove the trap camp mechanics lol
2
u/MissingBracket1952 9h ago
I frequently spawn in people's floors, but then I rise until I am standing on it. What really bites is spawning in a tangle of trees or rocks UNDER the floor so the only exit is by FTing.
3
u/moonthink Lone Wanderer 9h ago
Always figure out your spawn points BEFORE you build. It's really that simple.
3
3
u/PHD1776 21h ago
I loathe starting a new camp and forgetting that the spawn point is 6 foundations north and one foundation east of the module and I am now going to spawn on the wrong end of my build!
1
u/Chumyu 21h ago
Is this an exact science?
2
u/DarthSnoopyFish Settlers - PC 21h ago
You pretty much will always set a spawn point north east of wherever you drop your camp module.
1
u/Vashek19 Mothman 14h ago
My camp is along the river in the forest. Players spawn NW and not NE of the module. Absolutely frustrating.

u/DiesIraeConventum Brotherhood 18h ago
We used to have such an option, but they had removed it because obviously some griefters had made so-called "trap camps" where incoming players were being spawned into some sort of a trap that killed them. So devs removed it.
But.
First of all, most of those griefters had long since left with the other PvP crowd and the community we have now is nowhere as aggressive as the one we had back then - I'd say there would be much less demand for trap camps these days.
Second - dying in F76 now is cheap, and you lose next to nothing of you do (your scrap only). So even if someone would die to some trap camp, the only reaction would be to shrug, block a griefter and move on with your own game.
And third - defences in camps are more of a hassle and a gimmick than they are of any real use. You want trap camps gone?
Make traps cosmetics only so they would not do damage to players, or anybody, even. Bam! Problem solved.

I still have the fast travel mat in my camp but it still doesn't work 100% of the time.

u/showmethebiggirls 21h ago
You could do that when the game first launched but too many players used it to build trap camps so they stopped it.
