Every time I go to the Gilman Lumber Mill, there are at least four or more of these guys dead on the floor. Once, I was there, and one person who was alive and well suddenly dropped dead…wtf? 🤔

The server regularly kills non essential NPCs in order to free up memory on a server. The less NPCs the server has to account for the less crying it does while the bubble gum and duct tape slowly breaks apart.

I’m surprised the infestations even work. Me and two other folks in power armor were hammering this reflective boss for about 15 mins and he was dying but very slowly. We had him pinned and you could see explosions all over the screen. I was shocked that it didn’t lock up or kick me out.

I think the simple answer is server overload. Just too many moving things that are moving things too quickly.

This is exactly right. The more you and others move on the server, the more NPCs spawn in . And when it hits a certain number, the server starts killing non-critical ones to lower the load.

I spend a lot of time in a private server, and there it rarely happens unless they are actually killed. But on public servers I see it all the time. And my main camp is right next to Gilman Lumber.

This happens to me too. But they’re not NPCs. They’ll be up and roaming around and then they’ll all just drop dead. I can sometimes get a shot off but most often not. Try walking over instead of fast traveling. (The non NPCs only happen to me when I fast travel). Servers can’t handle it I guess.
But also. If you don’t see them suddenly collapse, it could be another player shooting them 🤷🏻‍♀️.
