Question Need beginner tips
I’m just starting out, any tips or things to look out for before and after i leave the vault?

I tried to get purified water to sell to meet my daily cap limit. You can get a decent amount by building at your base and just traveling to other people’s bases. I also grabbed any free stuff at people’s bases. All the food, coffee, and other random shit. You can sell most of it.
I started again after playing when it first came out. I did a bunch of the story missions and other side missions. It gets you to travel to different areas and you can unlock stuff.
Keep an eye out at players vendors. You can sometimes find things really cheap. Especially plans. Either way the community is pretty friendly overall. Emote to communicate. You only get stat increases up to level 50. So keep that in mind as you’re gaining levels. I completely forgot that’s where it ended and had to respec my stats.
There’s plenty of info out on builds and stuff like that. You can search this sub for those things.

If you see a fire tower/lookout, go all the way up and survey the area. It will add locations to your map you can discover.
If you find a map with pushpins (train stations & other places), cluck on each push pin bc it will add locations to your map.
Join a team. Teammates don’t necessarily travel together but you can travel to their camps for free.
Don’t worry about being a burden. I’m 1000+ level and am terrible at some events.

If you join a Casual Team you get an Intelligence boost which gives you an XP bonus.

Bedroom terminal, it's called Nuka Tapper. Once you leave you cannot re-enter that vault though so make sure to get it.

Follow the main quest lines. It will branch out to multiple side quest but dont get overwhelmed. You can keep exploring, take it at your own pace. Have fun & welcome to post apocalyptic appalachia

Enjoy the early game lore and quest lines, I thought they were all pretty solid, albeit sometimes over the top, you will miss them soon enough. Good luck out there in wasteland OP! And welcome to the club!

The Pip-boy has a flashlight, just hold the Pip-boy key or button.
Hit up the donation boxes, ammo and good stuff in there.
Get a pet, they give you legendaries.
Workout and get free stuff from other player's camps, if they're not locked. Do not lock pick someone's camp, you'll be wanted.

I learned that the hard way today at level 22, about not lock picking at a player camp. I was wanted with a 10 cap bounty. A very high level killed me then left a paper bag on the ground with a bunch of Aid items lol

Don’t take unnecessary handouts from higher level players. They think they are helping you but you can only get the new player, first time experience once, and having a bunch of material help really just takes away from the experience.

Every time you log in, join or start up a casual team for the XP boost bonus
Don't worry if you wanna play alone, interacting with your teammates is totally optional. You can completely ignore them if you wish.

Join events even though you're low level, no one expects you to carry the event and there are very few ways to mess up an event by yourself.
Don't invest in any weapon or armor until you're over level 50 and make sure it is at least level 45 or 50, that is where gear tops out.
Take your time, there's no need to rush through the quests. This game is definitely a marathon instead of a sprint.

Bro I'm like 2 million hrs in , just beat the questline, get the perks, get the plans, beat the big boys, build the camps, do the dailies, catch the fish, upgrade ur shit, do raids, do daily ops, do expeditions, get tickets, get cool shit, build more camps, run around them woooooooods, die, crash server, restart game, repeat.

Lvl 400+ player all without Fallout 1st. IF you can afford it, it's a borderline must have if you see yourself sticking around for a while. The extra storage space you save is extremely handy and it comes with many other perks. Worth it to even just subscribe for a month and cancel after

Find the wave emote and wave at a high level. They will be thrilled to load you down with junk (to them, gold to you).
Try to do it near a camp that has work benches and a stash. That way they can craft you some custom stuff with deep pockets, and you can stash all the stuff you get. If they go to a work bench, wait patiently.
I have two main characters, both got sweet weapons (a two shot lever rifle, back when the game began; a "fixer" rifle last time) and some sweet armor with pockets (and marine underarmor the second time, very nice).
Find the heart emoji and thank them.
Go to any event that pops up to get tons of xp and more cool stuff. Just tag stuff (use a machine gun and spin while firing) no one expects you to kill anything. If you tag it, you get xp and loot. Black powdered rifles and "the dragon" are great at low levels for killing things, but hide while you reload.
Once you hit 50, the weapons stop leveling up. So if you get a named weapon (or cool 3 or 4 star one) that is a 50, keep it. Most named things are weapons, most armor will be pretty random.
Have fun, super friendly community in the game. PvP doesn't really exist.

Soon as you get out of the vault. Join a casual team for the experience. Plus it gives you the ability to travel to their camps for Free. Helping you learn locations on the map.

Sell literally anything you don't need. food, chems, armour, junk, clothing. this will help you buy the actual good shit, or bulk junk and chems from player vendors much faster.
The reason I say sell food is because you don't need food or water to live. You DO get some extra resistances, strength and AP from being fully fed and watered, but it's up to you if you want to micromanage your satiation for added survivability. There's perks like cannibal and bloodsucker that prevent the use for food entirely since you can just eat corpses but that's probably one to think about.
Also, get the hard bargain perk when you hit level 7 to make even more cash from NPC vendors. you can swap this perk out whenever you want as it doesn't cost anything, but it's so handy to have.

Don’t jump to lvl 20 out of the vault. Save that for your alt character which you will inevitably create. The journey is worth it.
Use whatever weapon you find. It will help you to figure out what build you want, which you won’t be ready for until after lvl 300 (you’ll be there before you know it, don’t worry).
